No snow here but it is not common in Cornwall. I do use a treadmill most mornings and do twenty minutes at 60 - not sure what the 60 means but it is a brisk walking pace and clocks up about 3,500 steps.
Thanks for your reply Pentreath. You seem to do pretty well.Do you have copd? I'm trying to see what people do to improve their condition.
Thanks

Hi Rubyred77 No I do not have COPD but Bronchiectasis and asthma. For several winters running I was getting back to back exacerbations and not able to do much at all. When I am well I can do most things I need to 74 years old but last year decided to 'get a grip' and very slowly lose the surplus weight I had been carrying most of my adult life. The PR course in the summer was excellent and that is when I got the treadmill. Started very slowly and built up speed and duration over time. This winter have had colds but no exacerbations so hoping this is reward for 'good behaviour'!
Best wishes
Pentreath
this is intresting to see what other people can do with this illnes i have been doing half hour on treadmill incline 7% at 3 mph for a mile or just over then walk on normal flat until i clock up another mile = 2 miles.
another day i will trot for a mile and beleive me thats all i can trot for and again will walk for another mile = 2 miles then go for a swim but at the moment doing nothing have got a realy bad cold and not sure if its the flu.
Good luck

Hi Music,
You do really well. Are you mild copd? I would like to gather up what people can do and supplements they take and kind of map out a good plan.
Thanks
Rubyxx
Hi ruby
Well i was doing well untill i got this cold or what ever it is mind you i am on my second day of antibioitics so hopefully may start clearing up soon.
If you click on the purple circle with my name under then click on my activerty or posts then that will bring up all my past posts so you will be able to see what my lung funtion and stage of the copd i was then when first diagnosed and what it is now.
Has i was first diagnosed by a lung function test at moderate stage.. lung function 62% then 16 months later another test showed lung function 84%
How that happed i dont know has i thought 84% should be normal but my gp said 85% that makes me haveing mild copd.
All very confuseing and i know i should not think this has our doctors are very good and busy but somtimes wonder if some of these gps fully understand about this copd or even how we feel.
Anyway i am due for another test in april or march so will let you know the outcome but have a look at my posts and keep breathing lol good luck.

When my husband feels inclined (!) to he uses the treadmill for about 30 minutes - walks very slowly though only covers about 3/4 of a kilometre. I dont care how far or for how long as long as he does something!!! xx
Hi Ruby
I use the treadmills for 8 mins three times a week. I have an incline of 5 and a speed of 4. I think I do half a mile at that speed. I have 47% lung function so not sure if that is good or bad! Best wishes barnowl
Hi Ruby, I go to the gym once a week. I do 45 minutes on the toning chairs and then 3 minutes on the treadmill. I set the incline to 2 and the speed to 2mph. Mind you I am on oxygen 24/7 for my Pulmonary Fibrosis and Pulmonary Hypertension. My COPD friends last longer on the treadmill. Good exercising.
Kind Regards
Mandy
Hi Ruby I go to the gym I do 20 mins on treadmill 4-5 speed programe 10 on inclines xxx
Sadly due to an ongoing nasty chest infection and the flu bug ,,,I haven't been able to exersise this year, but since 2008 I have been going quite regularly to the gym twice a week ,where I built up to 2 mike on the tread mill ,,,,at level 5.5 in 22 mins that was my best ,some time spent jogging ? Slowly haha and some on an incline of 1 ,but I also did 3 mile on the hand bike 10 mins, 3 mile on the bike 15 mins approx ,and 1000 meters on the rower ,and some of the weight machines ,
I suffer from copd,Bronchietis ,chronic asthma, and emphasyma ,,,,I accomplished this with the support of the pulmary rehab team, hopefully I will be back at the gym very soon ,to get my fitness levels back up ,,,,
Wow, hats off to you all, I'm lucky if l can walk from my armchair to the kitchen a small matter of 15 steps without stopping.
can only do 5 mins on the rowing machine always find that one hard strange how we all diffa but at least we are doing something that can only be good for us
Hi Ruby we have had lots of snow in the Shropshire area it went so cold last night and was frozen this morning.
Treadmill well I'm on a PR course at the moment I went on a tread mill the guy put it on a slight hill and I lasted 2 minuets
Well done! All I can say is that you must have very mild COPD. Some days I can hardly get out the front door to get in the car without becoming extremely breathless! I do about 5 minutes walking around the house twice a day then about every other day a little gentle yoga and lift 2 kg weights. Mind you I do have severe COPD and on oxy 15 hours daily. No room for a treadmill, unfortunately
Keep up the good work. I envy you.
All the best.

Hi Yes I did,,,thankyou ,,,,my daughter had got us two tickets at the NIA AT BIRMINGHAM to watch strictly come dancing ,,,,I put on a big smile ,a big warm coat and scarf and off we went, luckily we managed to get a disabled parking bay right by the entrance,
,( thank god for my blue badge ),,,just a few steps and we were inside the arena, she bought the tickets back in august ,,,,so we had great seats, unfortunately my daughter also suffers with a bad chest ,,,but she said if I was feeling upto it so was she ,,,,I couldn't let het her down, so it was straight there ,watch the show, which was brilliant, then back to
the car ( just a few steps ) Then home, I'm so glad I/we made the effort ,,,that was the 17th jan ,,,,I've not been out since as my oxygen levels are so low,,,,so the copd nurse has been coming in to see me to check my sats every other day ,,,,but 88 at rest dropping drastically to 76 on movement is not good for me,
Antibiotics finished now,,,,I had a lovely birthday thankyou for asking ,,,,but it's hard work enjoying your self,,,,,but a brave face and a smile hides a lot,
I manage 15 mins 6% incline 6.5kph don't know how far I get it feels like a power walk Marian x
Lucky you having summer birthdays,,,,,I've spent more than my share of birthdays in hospital,,,,I think I'll be like the queen and have 2 birthdays,,,,,second one could be in June, haha
We're getting rain , then snow here..... .today it's snow and a very chilly wind !! Treadmill...yes it's better inside then out there today . I do about 150 to 200 steps..I walk at a pace as if I was walking outside...just medium pace. If I don't do it every day , It seems I have to start all over again. I have COPD or emphysema , same thing, so I have to keep up the pace as long as I can anyway.

Hi Ruby, was doing a mile on the treadmill at 2mph when i went to PR, so bought a treadmill just before Christmas to keep up the good work! Unfortunately have'nt been to good since, so not actually used it yet. Also think i made the mistake of buying one with built in incline. My FEV is 20 and i'm at stage 4. I do hope to get some use from it though! Warmest wishes Kin Xx
Hi Kininmouth,
Thanks for your reply. Hopefully you'll feel better soon and can get moving on your treadmill. You can do it! Read Stilltruckin s post. You and her are at similar stage. Let us know how your making out.

I have an elliptical cross-trainer conveniently situated in my living room amazon.co.uk/PARIS-MAGNETIC... . I clock up 1600 metres (a mile) every day in stages of 125-150 metres at a time (to the point of moderate breathlessness).
I'm stage 4, FEV1 of 25%.
Good evening Ruby, oh how I wish I could afford one of these mechanical exercisers. My health got bad with scar tissue on the nerve in my spine, that was after having two discs removed in lower lumbar region 4 & 5 way back in April 1983. Now I am having major problems with my heart now, it is failure after failure. It's not really being up to keeping me going now. The way I see it if I had one of these electric treadmills I could excercise "safely" in my own home. My wife would be happier with me indoors although I do take Monty my dog for a walk every day.
Oh! well peeps I can only dream.
Stay lucky Ruby xx
