I find it very distressing coughing up blood with bronchiestasis. Any ideas to help
Hello there, is this a new thing coughing up blood also how much are you bringing up? If it is seek medical help. I too have bronchiectasis along with other lung complaints. I can bring up blood sometimes with a bad infection but too much is worrying. Please let us know how you get on. M x
Thanks for your reply. I have Bronchiectasis 27 yrs & have regularly coughed up blood with it. I attend a specialist regularly & have IV treatment occasionally & oral antibiotics regularly.
Coughing blood has become more frequent & of late I feel very weak with it & just have to have complete rest for a few days till it settles. My specialist is not too worried about it as it settles itself . I was just wondering do other people find it very weakening. I have diffuse bronchiestasis and at severe end of spectrum
Thank you for your reply. I don't know anyone with this side effect of bronchiestasis

Hi,
I have had Bronchiectasis for 35 years. Occasionally cough up blood, but notice it is worse when I do certain physical things. Have a lot of pain in my left side and have been told there is lots of scar tissue here. I think as we age, capillaries weaken and make bleeding more common. It is usually not a serious problem and generally stops by itself. Try not to be too alarmed, as that will make you feel stressed and weak.
HI JK
I've had Bronchiectasis for 70+ years. I have occasionally coughed up blood, but not on a regular basis. I have been told by GP and specialists alike, that this is normal for this disease, so I wouldn't worry too much. However, if it's a lot or most of the time, get it checked out. It could be a simple explanation, like strain from coughing, or the results from an infection. Yes, it can be a very debilitating disease, which at my age is just another excuse to sit around and watch the tv all day! Lol. Good luck. XX
Thank you both for such reassuring replies and great to hear from other people who have same problem. Just wondering what do you do when it happens . In the last few years I find I just have to almost have complete rest as even taking a few steps sets it off again . I know it has to be more than 600 Mils n 24 hours before it is dangerous. Thankfully when I have a severe one it is probably between 100 & 200 millilitres & on other occasions it is not projectile & much less.
I have worked till a few years ago which is great . Now that I'm retired my hobby is walking and I could walk for an hour a day up till last year but now find after about half an hour my lungs feel tender and fluidy and this brings on a bleed . Just wondering has anybody else noticed this .
This is the first forum I have ever been on and even the few replies I have received have been so beneficial.
Thanks so much
JK
Sometimes the blood is from the throat because of the coughing.
