Does anyone have any exercises for shallow breathing. When we sit or lay down our oxygen levels go down , b ecause of our breathing. Ever hear of exercising by putting a book on lower stomach? You would be lifting it with your diaphragm muscle. What do you guys think of that idea?

You should use diaphragm breathing all the time. You can just use the palm of your hand,
Rest hand on stomach breath out by pushing stomach out, this will allow diaphragm to drop, breath in by pulling stomach in, at the same time press hand in and up under rib cage to push more air out of lungs,
After some practise you will be able to diaphragm breath as normal.
Breath in through nose out through pursed lips is another breathing technique.
Also blow and go.
Stop to breath in, exhale to go or perform task.
the idea of the book is great as it will show you if you are breathing from the diaphragm as you should but as for your 02 levels going down when your resting thats not right and should speak to the team who are taking care of you
Hi Mandy, wondered how your doing. Did you have a nice christmas? I never did tell you my story. I have copd, moderate. I also had a small lung cancer removed. Just a wedge. Otherwise I'm doing well. Still working.
How are you doing with your transplant. You think you'll be getting it?
Your O2 levels tend to drop when resting because you adopt a more slovenly posture which cramps your breathing sand for the simple reason that your body doesn't need as much at rest. You can easily boost your oxygen levels by breathing exercises. Your over all oxygen level can be booster by regular exercise of all of your body including your lungs....which must result in you becoming breathless to the point of making speech and exercise at the same time, difficult. At that stage stop, do breathing control and measure the time it takes to get your SATS back to normal. That is the basis of exercises on PR course.
