Metal taste
Snap! I think it's just the cold, but do look out for a change in colour of your phlegm. Wrap up well, take whatever cold remedies you'd normally take as long as they don't interfere with any of your other medications, and keep drinking plenty of fluids. I've found gargling makes me too breathless, but you could try that to see if it helps x
Thank you for replying thought I was going daft. Just glad some one else shares my symptoms.
Hi Tiasam, it could be that you have reflux - many with copd have it (1 in 3 apparently) and many on a reflux forum i visit say they get a metal taste from the reflux. You could call the BLF helpline to discuss, they are brilliant. Click red balloon top right of page for contact details.
Thank you. Will ring them and see what they say
I find the metal taste comes from blood! Is there any blood content in your sample?
I don't really cough a lot up. I find it very hard to get rid of congestion. Think I need to go back to docs but thanks for your reply
Good Morning Tiasam, I think you should go back to the Doctor and check! My husband was told that if two of the following three symptoms worsen it was time to take antibiotics: more coughing, more breathless and a change in colour of phelgm. My husband suffers with COPD but I had a cold last week and had a horrid taste in my mouth. Hope you feel much better very quickly TAD xx
Thank you. Been to see chest nurse she said upper chest abit wheezy and if it doesn't ease take abs. Thank you for your response all are greatly appreciated
Hi when I have that taste when I cough usually means I have a chest infection. I have copd so it may be different but I'm sure the metal taste is the infection. Go get your chest checked in case not wise to leave it. Hope this helps.
As you can see from last comment think it may be on my chest. Just hate taking steroids don't mind abs. Chest nurse said nothing about metal taste just looked at me like I was daft
Mucous secretion due to that produced in the upper sinus passages and upper airway as well at that produced in the lower respiratory tree can drain into the back of the mouth and when tasted, can have a metallic taste pending the type of infection, some blood and if mixed with medications, food and other ingestants, give the metallic taste.
Hope that helps explain?
Thanks Offcut. Where would we all be without the knowledge of all these members. You all certainly put my mind at ease I am so glad I found this site. Thank you all for your kind and informative responses
my nurse told me from day 1 that any change in the colour or taste should be looked into.....every time ive had a bad taste ive had a growth of Pseudomonas
Am starting my course of abs. Hopefully all will be ok. Thank you for replying
I have been to cardiologists and lung function test etc. They have said I may have some sort of Copd but waiting results. This concerns me as when I search copd it's life threatening things such as emphasema etc. What copd have you?
