Tonight I had hard boiled eggs dressed with salad cream (nearly empty bottle) and topped up with mayo. Although I could have happily settled for a bowl of cereal in the hot weather. So lazy!!

I'd have what flibberti's having. A tangy, liquidy dressing - hate the consistency of Mayo and salad cream.

Well I went for a meal with my husband Sunday to a Harvester in Broadstairs. Help yourself to the SALAD cart the waiter said, so we did while we waited for our meal. Then my Husband is moving the condiments about on the table looking for the SALAD cream, don't worry I said calling the waiter, have you got some SALAD cream please. NO was his answer without explanation. Then a girl appeared carrying our meals, obviously briefed about my outrageous request, jumped straight down my throat, don't have salad cream never have only Mayonnaise. Really I said, but you have a SALAD cart there's a clue in the title, my joke obviously went over her head as she flounced off never to be seen again.

I have complained to head office and received a reply telling me how seriously they take my complaint, and that that branch in question will be in touch, along with loads of other nonsense. Apart from their staffs lack of manners and needing a good kick up the a***e, is that a yes for the salad cream because I wont go away.

Neither Kimmy. Both are unpleasant, bad for reflux. Used to make mayo with loads of garlic for the family, it's easy. mmmmm yum, must go & have my breakfast!

On my salad: only homemade dressing: Dijon mustard , cider vinegar or lemon juice, (both gentle on the tum), olive oil & garlic.

I can honestly say I've never bought a jar of salad cream, it's a horrible childhood memory, that slime around the lid

That's exactly my point Flibberti, I will eat Mayonnaise but my husband only ever has Salad Cream, it's a common enough condiment they could supply me with all manner of dressings except the one we wanted, while we're on the subject they don't do Horseradish or Whole grain mustard either. However the Brewers Fayre supply all in little sachets, guess where we are heading. xxxxxx

Well Kimmy59, a late reply to your post, but I like most salad dressings. Had noticed no salad cream in Harvester so I opt for the vinaigrette as it is low in calories. But agree customer should have last say, so hope they do salad cream following your complaint. Weather spoons do it too in sachets. I don't like sachets as I have arthritis in my hands but I carry scissors for the places that use sachets. Don't like pump water containers like in BHS either, Harvester serves it to table in a pot (the tea of course) with any amount of refills and price is comparable guess we all choose the place that serves our needs best.

With salad I like mayo.Has any one tried a banana sandwich with salad cream.It,s quite tasty.I always find the food police(snobs) rather lacking a sense of adventure and humour

Yes you're right. It's not much to ask at an English restuarant.

I feel much the same if I'm given a salad with no dressing or or laced with cheap vinegar.

Yes it's really weird about the lemon and cider vinegar. I find them soothing and cant tolerate any other citrus or vinegars.

I think I read once that apples turn alkaline in the gut.
