I have copd and I have done everything I am suppose to, I feel it is worse but still not on oxegyn

I feel I am drowning on this mucus it is horrible. I went shopping with my younger sister one

store! I felt like I had ran a marathon. I am whistling when I breath it is scary. Am I a baby for

being afraid? Is there something I can do to make this better?

Hi there Liz57. I have been recently diagnosed, and I was like you on and off suffering like that for 17 months, they said breathing problems were due to low iron levels, as had a massive bleed through mouth last year due to autoimmune liver disease, so was wrongly diagnosed, not with the anaemia, but with the breathing issues, in the end I did not want to go out as really could just walk 10; steps then I felt I was going to collapse, could not speak to anyone, as you know its a nightmare, only thing I did not have and that was mucas, I kept going back to go over and over again, then I was given a spriomartry test and that confirmed it, am taking symbicourt 200 that has a steroid in it I can only have it for 3 months with the steroid, then same inhaler without, do feel a lot better, but gp said it would take at least 3 months for me to feel any significant improvement, so no you are not being a baby, its the most horrible experience I have had, so good luck and go back to doctor you should not have to go through life like this. oh you poor thing - i was diagnosed about 2 months ago and felt exactly like that until the meds kicked in (seretide and spirium and antibiotics n steroids to get rid of infection) Once infection went , I felt quite well and thank fully do now. Would you perhaps go to doc to see if you have infection?

sorry you are not feeling well - hope you feel better soon.

thank you and yes I will

Hello. - I care for my husband who has severe Copd. There are lots of things available to help you - you are NOT being a baby you are quite naturally scared. This disease is frightening and I have found over the years is that you have to be proactive.

My first advise would be to contact the BLF helpline they have some fantastic information and leaflets. Please go back to your doctor there are drugs available to help with the mucous. I wonder if it is worse than normal Or has it changed colour - perhaps you have an infection which can make all your symptoms much worse.

The doctors cannot give you a cure but there are lots of meds available to make sure you have a good quality of life. There is a fantastic course called pulmonary rehab which is a course of exercise and information - please ask your doctor it was a life saver to my husband.

The hot weather may not help either, my husband finds it cry difficult at the moment. We still have a great life just a lot slower than others! In my opinion the key is to try to take control - ask the lovely people here, ring BLF and go back to your doctors. Wishing you much luck and easy breathing, TAD xx
