Hi oldkath. I have already a low white cells count, but it was noticed that Rifampicine, which fights one bug for TB (Mycobacterium) depletes the white blood cells even more. During my stay in hospital in March, the drug was stopped. I asked if there was any alternative, there is none. For the time being, I'm alright. but if the mycobacterium comes back, it will be difficult!.

Not many people know the condition neutropoenia, which is specifically a lack of neutrophils ( as well as other white blood cells). This lack makes me extremely vulnerable to catching any infection.

I should ask your haematologist if he knows the cause of your low white blood cells count. Hope this helps.

thanks for your replies.I know I was pretty vague, tried to keep my message short. So, After being ill for a good six months last year, I had chest xrays and a ct scan, with a bronchoscopy planned to determine possible lung cancer. Only to be told the shadow on my lung had been a buildup of infection. After another visit to the hos last week, blood levels show signs of severe allergy. the doctor at the hospital asked if i'd heard of Churg Strauss Syndrome. this syndrome was mentioned on the info leaflet that accompanied the medication I was taking, 'Accolate'. I've stopped taking it, dunno if thats right or wrong. I was hoping some1 had taken Accolate and experienced any side effects ? I will contact blf for advice, thanks and best wishes to all
