it sounds a bit like what i had once ,a pneumo thorax , with me they stuck a needle in my chest and siphoned off two litres of air icould breathe a lot better after that

Strange that tall thin people get it more often? Being small and fat seems like I might be ok ;)

So Gordon, hope you are short and fat! I was always short and slim. Now I'm short and fat from continued use of steroids. Glad something good came of it. Sorry I'm no help

Just remember, they wouldn't do the op if they had any doubts. The very best to you and speedy recovery. Sara

I had an op for somthing else. But to be honest, you are rolled in the theatre, they give you an injection and you wke up after as though nothing has happened!

It will be interesting how you manage it after. I suppose you will have loads of physiotherapy to help you breathing?

only local anesthetic given, and that big needle they stick in you does make your eyes water

a chap in the same ward , next bed as me had a chest tube fitted for a pneumothorax as far as im aware this was done by a local anesthetic, he was in very little, but slight , discomfort ,he had it in for two days, then he was ok,

they were going to fit a chest tube on me with a collapsed lung,[air was trapped] but i managed to get through it with antibiotics, i was scared at the prospect, but the lad next to me took it in his stride,,,, i was in a lot longer than him:)

Know nothing about these ops. But i hope sincerely that you feel better for it. Take courage!
