i have to go for a echo scan as they ... - Lung Conditions C...
i have to go for a echo scan as they say when you have copd it also can effect your heart as anybody eles heard of this a bit worried xx
yes I had one about 1 year ago and as you say its to check your heart, I wasnt the least bit worried its just a check-up, they do, like having an xray, I had both done at differnt times and havnt had any since, Joan x
It's a scan which shows the heart's ventricles and how well the valves are working in each one. If they have the machine set up so you can see it, you can see the valves in the four ventricles opening and closing which felt very reassuring. The second time I had the echocardiogram several years later, there was so much trapped air that they couldn't see properly whether the heart was working or not. But Im still here anyway
I have had two - I found them painless and reassuring. x
try not to worry, it is wonderful that you have this care and you will have reassurance that all is well. If it's not perfect then they'll know and manage it well.
........ I'm a bit envious, I went to GP with intermittant palpitations and she tok my pulse fobbed me off saying lots of people miss a beat now and again, it's normal". I came away feeling like a hyperchondriac and the palpitations are still here Grrr ..... good luck, let us know how you get on
It is true any lung condition can strain the heart or cause a heart condition to develop, this is the reason they do these routine tests to check your heart is still in good working order. I've had two plus a few other heart tests my tickers still going strong so I would say don't worry it's just routine, hope your test results are good
Cor Pulmonale if memory serves correct.I think it's the left ventricle that enlarges due to the heart being overworked because of poorly oxygenated blood.
Hi southend, try not to worry, sometimes the echocardiograms are just routine, one of the cardiac checks when a lung condition is diagnosed.
Hope all goes well for your echo, let us know how you get on.
Best wishes BC
I thought it was amazing to be able to see your own heart working away, it's utterly painless, takes very little time and if you get a good operator very educational. It was well worth the visit because there was nothing wrong and now I have seen it all in action I feel a lot better, certainly boosted my confidence.
It's good they check that everything functions. Yes, of course, the strain of the illness can have a strain on the heart. Them at least gentle exercise should help.
I had swollen ankles in summer. Both haematologist and GP just said: Mpf! and left it at that. I bought some compression socks, the swelling has gone!
It's good to have check up. Don't do the worrying. The doc will tell you if there's anything astray and give you any drug that helps.
Can I just say that I did actually find it a bit uncomfortable? Because of my fibrosis the lungs are a bit thicker so they need to press harder to try and get the scan through to the heart. The bit they press on (especially in a female) is just underneath the breast - possibly where ladies have the least padding so I did find it hurt a little. I dont' want to scare or frighten you - just to prepare you a little. But as others say - fascinating indeed!
