I've got my PR assessment at 11.30 and I'm not looking forward to it. I did one December before last and did really well but I know I'm worse this time and use oxygen more, I don't feel ill or anything just frightened what they are going to say or if they will even let me do it.

At my last PR group, we had an elderly gentleman who used ambulatory oxygen and he just simply did as much as he felt able and the physio girls looked after him on a one to one basis. If, in the worse case scenario, they suggest you aren't fit enough to do the exercise part you can always ask to go on the course anyway because the information given there is invaluable. Good luck x
A refresher course often helps respiratory nurses manage progression in conditioning decline, increased oxygen use charts lung condition progression a change in oxygen prescription is often revealed on each course.
As a veteran of previous courses passing on what you have gained from Pulmonary Rehabilitation is valuable for new starters more nervous than returning patients.
It was ok in the end had to do it twice, once with 3 lt once with 4, 4 won but in my defence carrying the oxygen on your back is hard work in its self, and they agreed so second time they carried it and I only stopped once for a couple of seconds. So they lied really it was a 12 minute walk test.
Dont let them carry your oxygen tank when doing walk tests, this is unfair and gives a better reading than it would be in your general day to day activities. Let them see the truth of your limitations insist on carrying it yourself. We don't all have carers who fetch and carry for us.
They didn't do it for that reason, I've only just changed to liquid oxygen so we were testing to see if I needed 3 or 4 lt and if to change back to the other oxygen on a trolley to do the course, as I'm not sure I like the liquid it was all at my request. I don't have carers who fetch and carry for me either.
I was worried for nothing they were lovely, and as Scrobbitty said they told me I could go at my own pace. It was the walk I worried about but it was fine no pressure just do what you can. Good luck with yours you'll be fine.
The assessor is going to try me on the exercise bike as I have done the walk several times unsuccessfully I am afraid, can only try our best every little keeps us stronger, glad yours went well.
Morning Kimmy59 - Glad to hear that the assessment went well, the nurses did exactly the same with my husband and carried his oxygen. Takes some of the pressure off! Hope you enjoy the PR course. Good Luck TAD xxx
Yeah it did but I'm not sure about the liquid oxygen. The reason is I have the back pack but I've got curvature of the spin so it bangs on it so is really uncomfortable, I'm going to see if my sister can fit a piece of sponge inside the bag as padding. What a drama.
