I can sympathise, tammyandclancy. I have my normal COPD productive cough. What is odd, it becomes a dry tickly cough later on in the day and sleeping at nighttime. It is possible the dry cough is a side effect of meds. now discontinued, but the cough wont go away.

I have thought about this. It doesn't happen so much when I am out. I think it is because we are in a dry atmosphere with windows closed. I know there is dust around. The 3 piece suite is due for a clean tomorrow. Does drinking water help?

Hi pergola, I have noticed that my productive cough gets better when I am out, I can start as soon as I get home. I have leather furniture and laminate floor except for the stairs, and bought a small rechargeable vacuum which I use every day to try and keep dust down. Got covers on mattress and duvet too, as my cough worse at night and first thing in morning.

I think Blakey c mentioned humidifiers a few months ago, I wonder if they would help.

Wish warmer weather would come so I can air the house

Have you got a Respiratory Nurse you can speak to or ask your Doctor to refer you back to your Consultant if you have one, Doctors can't be expert in everything so ask the people who are.

Have you done a sputum test to see what bug you have so you get the right antibiotics.

Why not give the BLF a ring on Monday morning, just click on the red balloon at the top of the page for the number, they may be able to help.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

seems im in the same boat as you t. an c. just been given more steroids antibiotics, second lot in a fortnight,

i have a another underlying illness [ank. spond] doctor gave me oramorph, both for pain, and to relieve breathing, i find this helps me sleep, off course i take my steroids first thing in the morning as these can keep you awake, lets hope your doc can sort you out, and hopefully get a decent nights sleep regards jw

I do feel for you tammyandclancy as Pete has a tickly cough now and struggles to sleep at night. He has a productive cough normally but at night it is a bit drier. I think he may have a chest infection but a sputum test sounds like a good idea but will have to wait until Monday now and he may be on antibiotics by then. Sometimes you need several different kinds of antibiotic to really get to the infection or problem but your doctor or consultant should help with that. Hope things improve for you. xxxx
