I have been diagnosed with emphysemia but thankfully it doesn't affect my life in the way it does some of you on here. My question is does anyone else get tired. Really tired. I slept for 36 hours on and off (mostly on) over Sundaynight/Monday/Monday night. The hairdresser came to cut my hair and I could barely keep my eyes open. And I couldn't get warm. I have just been on a course of anti biotics. Like you, I don't ever feel "right" but to experience tiredness like this is something new.

To sleep or not to sleep .......
This could be me I have emphysema and I never feel warm Ido feel tired a lot of the time but try and do things to keep me active or I find I feel worse
I too have trouble keeping warm, I also go to bed quite early - 8pm and don't usually get up before 9am, (I don't sleep all night but I would like to) I try and do a few things during the day but by about 3pm I am shattered and then really don't want to be bothered cooking an evening meal.
Maybe the antibiotics upset your sleep pattern, I hope you are better today.

Keeping warm enough is a problem for me too. It causes lots of rows in our house. Bobby xx
Oh gosh, My husband complains all the time about temperature. He can never get warm and then gets too warm and all the windows have to open while he gets some air! It is a constant problem at home. AND he is much more tired than he used to be - he sleeps now for 9 or ten hours - and that is about 4/5 hours more than he ever ever has!!
Thanks for posting this - it is always interesting to hear how symptoms affect each person differently. I will be a bit more sympathetic about the temperature thing now! Take good care. TAD xx
Hi Wowsa, I have periods of barely sleeping, just an hour or two here and there (which I hate) to sleeping for hours on end, waking for a couple, then off back to sleep again. Thankfully, I'm on a sleeping cycle at the moment! I have no idea what causes the different cycles. Libby
I am never bouncing around with energy. In fact I no longer do bouncing. An afternoon nap is a necessity. I dont sleep too well, primarily because I need the loo, or the cat is vocal.
You are SO kind, Bobby. Cant keep a pottie in case the cat falls in it. (Smiley)

It's this sympathetic nature I have. Anyway, strangled cats can't fall in potties.
Love from Bobby xxx
My temperature problem is the opposite I get really sweaty hot several times a day !
As far as sleeping and tiredness go - tired lots sleeping is very patchy, sometimes 24:00 til 08:00 solid other time half awake half asleep most of night. Quite often during day jut fall deep asleep within moments, odd.

hi the only problem with sleeping pills, that they stop working over about two weeks and they tend to make my breathing worse, I now have chloraphenamin 2 at night and these help, and added effect of antihistamine,
I also get very tired I have lunch and have an hours sleep and then usually have to go to bed around 7 pm and sleep through to 4 am I then do my yoga and exercises, and feel great, it doesn't last long though,
bye Richard
I was on 40mg steroid for the past week finished the course on Sunday I was ok yesterday but today I feel dead I'm so tired but them I guess I'm tired most of the time. What stage is you condition at?
That's a point copdber. I was on steroids until Saturday. I'm just normally tired today. I am quite well really and the consultant assures me I'll have enough air to last me out. I can walk on level ground with no problem but if there is a slight incline, I'm beggared! I can't walk and talk unless I am really just ambling. I am quite happy with my relaxed way of life. Feel I've done all I want, no need to clean, sew and cook like I used to. We have a large garden. I enjoy sitting in it!
I'm overwhelmed by all your repllies. Bless you all.
I will try and get an official stage I'm at from my doctor next time I see him.
I am like you wowsa I have severe emphysema and sleep apnea and I am always tired, I work part time in the aerospace industry and I am a carer for my disabled wife, I usually work 5 hours in the morning then I go home and look after my wife, then I sleep for an hour as I am so tired !,then when I wake up I do everything else look after my wife, shop ,clean ,run errends,do jobs around the house washing drying gardening but aside from the fatigue and shortness of breath I don't feel too bad, I can almost cope at weekends when I don't work, but weekdays are a nightmare of work and sleep
Sleep and heat, both an issue for me. Mainly I feel cold, the wife is always warm. I get very cold, so much that I can't feel my leg and foot. That's been put down to Raynauds in the past, but I can't help but feel it's linked to COPD too.
Some nights I can't get to sleep at all, I've known it be 5, 6, 7am or later, a couple of times I've not slept at all. Most nights I need to be very tired before I get my head down at all. I can't do with trying to get to sleep, I get annoyed and then have to get up again.
I used to come down and use the computer for a while, reading, playing games, on here, whatever. At the moment my son is staying with us, so he has the living room and my sleeping bags. I have to go to bed, and I am far from comfortable most nights up there. Last night I was laid there, I went up about 2am, I was still awake at 8am so went to the loo, then back to bed, and actually slept until 11. Most days I give up and go read a book somewhere.
But, I feel tired during the day. I have been known to take a nap, an hour or two sometimes. On an evening I can be sat at the computer and doze for a few seconds, then wake up again. Very odd.
It does not seem to matter if I have had a day of (trying to) doing things, visiting somewhere, hospital appointment, or just sat around. If I feel tired, I feel tired. When I've been able to sleep downstairs I've slept better, because I've been propped up and my airways are more open, or at least that's my theory.
I'm worse during a chest infection, of that I am certain. There is no point in me trying to get settled until I am ready for sleep. I can be laid on the sofa, watching some junk on TV, and will feel my eyes going, so switch the TV off quickly, lay down, and hope I don't miss the moment.
The one thing that does bother me is if I go to bed, I always seem to end up sleeping on my front, and then suffer with a sore chest all day. I've tried propping myself up with extra pillows, but it does no good as I always end up sliding back down and scrunched up. In the chair or sofa I'm more upright than sloping, like in the bed with pillows.
I certainly don't have the energy I used to have, but don't have the ability to sleep as much either. I don't want to get sleeping pills though, I have an unpleasant memory of those.
I feel cold a lot of the time but don`t like it very hot (not much chance of that in uk) I do get very tired some days (what I call my drain days) and just have to go to bed again during the morning for a couple of hours. Try to have a sit down a doze in chair afternoon but I have a hubby who just does`nt seem to understand COPD and its implications and I feel under pressure to do stuff and then I get even more tired.
