Read lots about it though, if I lived close I would try I think its a well being relaxing feeling in the room and the salt is supposed to ease breathing that's what I have read, let me know if you try. They are widely used in London I know that.

Hi Chintz,

I have used the salt cave in Milton Keynes (nearest to me). I have asthma, bronchiectasis and other complications. You have an hour's session, very relaxing, I would bring my book but invariably fall asleep! Although it didn't cure the asthma, I found I would have more of a cough after the sessions, which I see as a good thing as getting rid of all the gunk that had been sitting down there. I found I had less chest infections and went after work one day when I had sinusitis and felt so much better afterwards! Also have taken my nephew and niece, who both had severe eczema and the results there really did seem miraculous - and they just saw it as going to play as the children's room is full of toys :-)

It is quite expensive, but I tend to get the BOGOF packages which makes it much more affordable.

I also use saline nebulisers at home which helps.

This company does the first session free so you have nothing to lose, give it a try, good luck :-)

I asked my specialist and he poo pooed them, but a lot of people swear by them, they dont harm so if it makes you feel good, do it, if I had one near me I would try it.

Hi.... I've recently been diagnosed with copd & s&m just recovering from a bad dose so currently on steroids & inhaler to help with breathing which is gradually improving, slowly but surely. I am attending my 1st salt cave session today in Milton Keynes, 1st one free & have purchased 2 more at a reduced price of £17 via Groupon. I'm happy to try anything that may help do will let you know how if went later after I have been.

Ah so a big nebuliser! With a lot of risk as will be a beading groins for bacteria and full of previous customers germs. Worth a try but best avoided if you are susceptible to chest infections and pneumonia. I'm an 8 year end stage ILD patient and would avoid this as could have done same with Saline Neb at home

Afralung, I hope you don't mind me asking you, but are you saying that you have been at the end stage for 8 yrs? and what does ILD stand for?

I am sorry to ask so many questions, but I would also like to know how long you were at the 'severe' stage 3 before getting to end stage?

I hope you are doing well and that you have many more years yet

i visited the salt mine in Krakow Poland and it did nothing for me. i stopped smoking six months ago and feel much better, the best thing that i have acheived, but it took me 50 years to do it.

Check it out and see. I think one or two mentioned previously they were going or have been, you could check, just type salt caves into site search (top right), results may show other posts of interest to you.

If you do go, please do let us know how you got on.

Many thanks BC

Haha, one of them was me BC! Lost the voucher but found it yesterday so will go next week. As my chest is bad at the moment it will be a good test xx

As for picking up others germs Afralung, you'd do that anywhere so I'll just take the usual precautions by not kissing or hugging anyone and touch nothing x

in reply topeege

I was reading on that web page 'contraindications' that its not suitable for stage 3 copd, that could have been the reason my friend had a bad reactions after attending one (friend has severe lung damage).

Enjoy yourself peeg, I'll look forward to hearing how you found it :)

YES, PLEASE TRY IT!

I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH HOW VALUABLE IT IS: FOR LUNGS, SKIN AND FOR THE IMMUNE SYSTEM.

IN EASTERN EUROPE IT IS STANDARD PRACTICE.

I HAD 20+ SESSIONS AFTER 3RD BOUT OF PNEUMONIA LAST YEAR.

AFTER AN HOUR'S SESSION BREATHING BECOMES NOTICEABLY EASIER.

I HAVE MET ELDERLY LADIES AT EDINBURGH VENUE WHOSE EMPHYSEMA HAS BEEN RELIEVED BY IT.

IT CAN BE EXPENSIVE BUT THERE ARE A LOT OF DEALS AND THROUGH ITISON AND AMAZON ETC ONLINE; THE FIRST SESSION IS FREE!

ALL THE BEST

funny you should ask that. I have a half price voucher for the same company via Amazon offers.

I meant to try it but lost the voucher for ages but found it yesterday so will be trying their SW London branch in the near future. Probably next week.

Will let you know. I'm very optimistic about it working. Anyway, believe it's harmless as small children are allowed in

Hi Sohara.

Not quite accurate. Had ILD Ideopathic Lung Disease, Ideopathic being medical speak for we don't know the cause for 8 years.

I was discounted from transplant scheme as too far gone in 2009 and I have been "end stage" 2 years and don't be fooled it's just a label my start of mind is life! So it's just a label so does not mean anything.

Why the questions and interest?

Sohara profile image
Sohara in reply toAfralung

I am 100% behind your 'just a label' policy, and the 'feel' I get from you is you are good for many a year yet.

I have had bronch since a child, and have just been treated when necessary with antibiotics through the years......and the 1st time I ever got eventually to see a cons, I was already COPD stage 3 severe.

I have no idea how long I stayed in each of the stages 1 & 2 it could have been decades in each stage. Now I have been diagnosed I do have some inhalers, stand by antibiotics if needed, and 6 monthly check ups...I have also read a lot now about this disease , and I actually feel that I could hopefully stay in this severe stage for many years. I was asking you, as you do seem to be a little ahead of me in the severity , so that I could perhaps gauge how long one takes to get from stage to stage ( I of course realise everyone is different....but just a general gauge.

Thanks for replying, its so great to talk to someone who has such a positive outlook

Hi Sohara

Thanks for that glad to help. My father survived 4 years in the Japanese concentration camps during the war and taught me the mind will go before the body so stay positive and busy and as Einstein said everything is relative..

I don't think you can put a time frame on stage and I was unaware if any others until you mentioned them.

Keep healthy keep busy and try not to think, too much,

Good luck and many years of life to be lived as someone once said its a poisoned chalice but it's a half full one.

Hi....Im sorry, I did reply to you last week to say I was going to attend a session in a salt cave but I forgot to get back to you to let you know my views on this. Well I have had 2 sessions since and I can honestly say I have felt great since. After just 15 mins in the cave I felt able to take a deep breath without pain & my lungs/breathing felt so much clearer after each session. I have 1 more booked in next week. Definately worth a try, I cannot praise this place enough & if I ever see any other offers on for a deal there I will purchase for the future.

I had great experience too, was recommended by my mum who attended an original cave in Transylvania for respiratory difficulties and has been relieved greatly by it, her symptoms never quite came back the same way as before (she spent 2 weeks there, going every day).

So I tried as well, mostly for eczema and for occasional upper-respiratory infections, also to relieve cough from 'social'smoking. I was very pleased with the results! II took about 10+ sessions and it really helped to clear up my eczema, also with the breathing. During the sessions you get kind of a tickling sensation as tiny salt molecules enter your lungs and sinuses and it can make you cough too. After the session you bring up more mucus and breathe more easily. Also, your skin gets smoother and less itchy.

I also asked them about infections between clients thinking about my little nephew who is often ill and was told not to worry as the salt settles on everything in the room and kills the germs. Also, they do ventilation sessions in between clients for the same reason. In my case I did not catch anything indeed. So very positive experience overall and I loved the chilled-out vibe there! :)

This place has been a mini miracle for me! I suffer from all kinds of allergies, (hayfever, dust, pets) and pretty much lived on antihistamines for most of the year! My best friend bought me a couple of vouchers for the Salt Cave for my birthday last year and the relief I got was so amazing that once I'd used my vouchers I signed up for a package of 20 sessions.

For the first time in I don't know how long, I have not taken any antihistamines for almost 8 months! I plan on going back in the next month or so and doing another 20 sessions to make sure that I keep the benefits. I can't recommend it highly enough this place has transformed my life!

Hi kdqn, thanks for sharing and so glad the salt caves have been of great benefit for your allergies. Can you advise please if you have a lung condition and how you found the salt caves helped this? Thank you. Bc

kdqn in reply to

Hi BlakeyC, I don't have a lung condition I suffer from Perennial Rhinitis(which is triggered by dust, pets, perfumes etc.) I also normally suffer from Hayfever for up to 6 months of the year. So not need to take any meds for almost a year has been wonderful.

However my dad was recently Diagnosed with the early stages of COPD and as I had spoken with a few people at the Salt Cave who have the same condition, I bought him some sessions as well. He has been 12 times now and the improvement in his lung capacity is marked. He wasn't able to walk very far or up stairs without getting out of breath. Just in the 5 weeks since he started going he can now walk up stairs without getting out of breath, he has reduced the amount of steroids that he is taking by half and has completely come off his inhaler. He did get a little bit worse the first few weeks, but the lady at the Salt Cave told us to expect this as the body starts to clear the excess mucus. But now he really is beginning to reap the benefits. His Consultant has been quite shocked by the improvement in his condition, but has told him to keep doing what he's doing as it is obviously working!

Hey Everybody,

I read lots of different experience here, that's a good thing that most of it positive! I have a very good experience too, I would like to share it with you. I had a very bad chest infection. I'm 25, I never had this before. I had a really sore throat, cough with a lots of mucus, I felt myself really weak. I had 2 antibiotic courses, nothing seemed to help... Than one of my really nice friend recommended the salt cave. I'm living in Sevenoaks so for me the closest was Tunbridge Wells. The first visit was free :) The staff was really kind and professional, the lady explained me everything. So after I had a 60 minutes session. Even after one session I felt myself less congested. Even though It's not the cheapest thing to buy, I had enough with the useless antibiotic courses, so I bought a package of 10 session, used it within 3 weeks. All my symptoms gone :) And I'm not joking, literally everything. It was so relaxing first of all, and even I didn't have any skin condition, I recognize that my skin is smoother :) I can just recommend for everybody. They had the BOGOF package offer in December. I did not have any problems at that time, but I bought another 10 just in case :)

Good luck guys, all the best for everybody!
