Two poems today as they are quite short. Hope they don't depress you as they are a bit sad.

Absently I lifted the brush

And went to do my hair,

then suddenly remembered

there wasn't any there.

I looked at my reflection

and had to shed a tear

as I looked so old and haggard

it filled me with dread and fear.

I had planned to go shopping

but instead I'll go back to bed

as all of my joints are aching

and so is my poor old head.

Heart Full Of Tears

With dark hair and eyes

I looked quite solemn

when that photo was taken.

Unremarkable,

unsmiling.

Different to now.

Bald, moon faced, alien.

No tears in my eyes,

but plenty in my heart.

Kath xx

As you say Kath a little sad, but very good as well. X

I must admit to feeling a little sad today Mavary. First mammogram since treatment is next week, and two days later is the anniversary of my surgery. Brings back bad memories. xx

Kath, is that you? I love the poems, they're realistic and true and although I've never had cancer, I can certainly relate in a sense, I don't look in the mirror unless I have to - what happened, where did I go?!!! Please don't be sad, you've come through it so far. Best wishes for next week. Libby x

Poems from within are so pure in spirit. They've not made me sad, just reflective. Wishing you well for your mammogram next week, an uncomfortable, but necessary test. x

Haven't made me sad at all.They are heart felt and heart rendering. Make me realize I have a lot to be thankful for.

Yep, that's me, about 6 weeks after my last chemo. I took new photos after every treatment - now is that sadism or masochism??

Libby, I've also written one called Where Did I Go?

Where Did I Go?

Once I was human

a long time ago,

Someone with strength

and get up and go

That person has vanished

I don't know where to,

I just cannot find her

Please, where did I go?

My life is such sadness

to think of my past

the girl I once was

but that didn't last.

I look in the mirror,

and I no longer know

Just who I am,

Oh where did I go?

One day I'll come back,

but be different somehow,

be stronger, be bolder

be calm and I vow

I won't make a mess

of my new life, oh no,

but just tell me please,

where did I go?

I won't give in to pity

or pass on the blame

for all my mistakes

that was me, just the same.

I'll keep going forward

move on, so you know

as long as I find out

just where I did go.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'll try and find a more cheerful one next time. Kath xx
Well poemsgalore, they are nice poems, really tear jerking. The one where did I go could fit any of us as none of us I suppose are the person we used to be before illness struck. Thank you for the poignant reminder.
That's what I thought Katie, Anyone with long term illness could use that one, whatever their health condition. xx
Oh Kath, they are lovely. As Libby said before I haven't had cancer but I watched my lovely sister in law go through treatment and can relate to the feelings expressed in them so honestly- they have made me shed a tear or two I must admit. All the best for next week, Julie xx
Best wishes for next week and thank you for sharing your experiences.Didnt know the old you but the new one seems a very thoughtful and caring person Joyce xx
You are the imaginary conversation in my head,
The sunny glade in the woods where I've been led,
The music in the air I can almost hear,
You are the sunshine, the laughter and the tear,
I can see the early morning mist across the bay,
Glory in the sunset at the end of the day,
Count every grain of sand along the shore,
But can I have another moment, just one more,
I promise not to grumble nor complain,
To be ready for you when you come again,
If anyone understands that would be you,
There's just one more thing I have to do,
Amazing! Touches the soul x
How beautiful Sirdandy. It looks as though we're having a poetryfest because that's made me think of another one to post:
The Road To Cushendall
Where Antrim's mountains rise and fall
down towards the grey stone wall,
there the sea mist casts its pall
along the road to Cushendall.
Upon the rocks and crags so bare,
wild long grasses here and there
catch the wind like mermaid's hair
as it blows down to Cushendall.
Where the dark hills slope and lean
towards the gentle vale of green,
here the sea spray falls like rain
upon the road to Cushendall.
Beyond the shores of reddish clay
and out across the peaceful bay,
the purple hills of Scotland lay
looking down to Cushendall.
Beneath the Red Arch hewn from stone,
a weary traveller all alone
along the coast road leading home,
riding down to Cushendall.
Promise we will walk again
along the pleasant winding lane
that stretches out across the plain
when I return to Cushendall.
Happy days, memories of 1968 when I was just 17. Kath xx
SOMEONE'S BEEN OUT IN THE GARDEN.
They've been quite busy too,
Some plants seem to've moved,
Are the borders improved,
It sure wasn't me, was it you ?
The gate still squeaks on its hinges,
When it catches the wind now and then,
And the leaves swirl around,
With that rustling sound,
As autumn comes round once again,
The windfalls will lie unattended,
Under the old apple tree,
There's some nettles come through,
With a dock leaf or two,
Not the way that it used to be,
Someone's been out in the garden,
Or maybe it's creatures at play,
Feeling quite unperturbed,
For both squirrel and bird,
Know the gardener has gone away.
You are very gifted Sirdandy. Your poems are brilliant, looking forward to reading more. xx
Let me hold you one more time,
Feel your heartbeat next to mine,
Hear your laughter, see your bright eyes shine,
May our lips meet, one more time,
When I falter my old friend,
You're beside me I pretend,
We don't have tomorrow,
While we still have today,
Let's stop talking, we'll just play,
It's my birthday, it's yours too,
I got presents, so did you,
We got sunshine, we got rain,
Two imposters, they're just the same,
We get sunshine, we get rain,
We get blue skies, we get grey,
We get warm winds, we get snow,
Give me one more smile before I go,
Give me one more smile, before I go
