Hiya I've just joined the site. Just wanted to let you know Tiotropium Inhalers are being discontinued, the pharmacist told me it wad because long term use can cause glaucoma. The doctor has prescribed me something else.

Hi,sorry I cannot help but I just clicked on the Tiotropium tag under your post and lots of info came up which might be of interest to you. Best wishes
Many thanks
Hi cancerstinks, Which Tiotropium is that? Spiriva Respimat or the Handi Haler?
There are several problems to do with this inhaler at present , not least the shortage from manufacturers. So many patients are being swapped by their doctors. There have been some previous posts on this and links to info.Good luck with your new inhaler cancerstinks.
That is a real disappointment as it works really well for me.

Lots of 'rumours' going around about this Lynne, I checked with my own pharmacist and GP neither have been notified that there is a problem at this time.
Hi cancerstinks
I am not aware of any shortage or that tiotropium will be discontinued. According to my local pharmacist and my GP they have not been notified about any problems with this medicine.
It could be a post code thing or something specifically related to individual patients.
Some patients using the respimat inhaler may need to discuss concerns with their GP if they have a pre existing heart condition.
I've also heard some patients who nebulize regularly being advised (by their own doctor) to do so with eyes closed to avoid any of the medicine interfering with the health of the eyes.
Hope you find your new medicine suits you well.
No the new medicine made me shake and my eyesight went funny. I had to go back onto Tiotropium but my consultant at hospital gave me a few months supply, so I hope the problem has sorted itself out by then. Many thanks for your reply.
That may explain why my Consultant reduced my Spireva respimat dosage from 2 puffs daily to one puff daily following a recent hospital stay.
