Started rescue pack 30mg steroids but can't remember how long to take them and if I need to taper them of

My course of prednisolone in the rescue pack is normally for 7 days at 30 mg/day. No tapering off. If in doubt ring your GP and ask.

I agree with 2greys. You should always notifie your dr if you start your rescue meds. So infections and exasperations can be recorded and your meds replaced.

I ‘believe’ anything more than seven days would require tapering off but best to check or confirm that with your doctor or pharmacist.

The respiratory unit here has advised seven days at 30mg and then reduce by 5mg every third day but OH is steroid dependent on 10mg maintenance dose.

Hi, when I have to use my rescue pack it is always without a taper, therefore if you start on 6 tablets a day continue that dose until the antibiotics are finished, usually 7 days worth. Then stop the steroids.

I recently started out on 6 (x5 mg) as recommended by my respiratory nurse. But things didn't get better and I had to go to A&E for support and nebulizer. They bumped me up to 8 tabs and right now I'm tapering off through 6 to 5 to 4 (present dosage), and down to 2 in next week or so. I was told to contact my respiratory hub at hospital if there's any dramatic change in my condition. Good luck. Finn

If they are the same ones as mine normally take 6 to begin with mine was for 5 days
