Hi. I am new to the site. I have just received a diagnosis of asthma at the age of 43. I work nights and days and outin all weather.
You should be covered / helped by DDA - now called equality act.
Sorry I don't know but I have found the ACAS website really helpful - they could advise. Lots of luck, TADxx
Hi, I'm sorry I know nothing about those allowances but would give the BLF helpline a ring on Monday, they have that information. They will also give you advice on looking after yourself re smoke, mould etc. perhaps they might recommend a mask to filter the smoke?
If I were you I'd be trying to find out why I have asthma, what causes it.
I've had it for years but it wasn't until I've had to go for hospital tests for chronic infections over the last 4 years that I also had skin prick tests. I now know I'm not allergic to house dust mite or pet dander (good new s for the dog).
My GP has given me Montelukast for allergic asthma and I find it quite helpful.
You really have to take care of yourself now, avoiding dust, fumes, chemicals, mould spores (particularly mould)' fag smoke, building dust etc etc.
If I knew at 43 what I know now about lung health I would have led a far healthier lifestyle. You have a real chance to make changes before they deteriorate in late 50's.
All the best, take care peeg
