Hi

Welcome to the site.

Used by many is to gargle and spit out after each dose.

Welcome snow54flake, well done for giving up smoking, the only help I can give you regards dry mouth is to rinse your mouth after taking Spiriva , it is a side effect that I have, I also take Seretide and was advised to use a spacer ( Easy haler) the other thing I do is chew sugar free gum, this helps with the saliva. Not a good look for a woman in her sixties lol but it is better than trying to talk with your lips stuck to your teeth. There will be others along to give you more advice.

Brenda.

Hi Snow (great name for this hot weather) and welcome to the forum :)

I use Spiriva too, but haven't experienced a dry mouth. However, after using it an my other inhalers, I tend to gargle and rinse with my home-made mouth wash, as I detest the proprietorial ones.

If you look on the information leaflet in the medication, you will see that dehydration is a side effect, so keep drinking lots of rehydrating fluids - basically anything with water in it except alcohol LOL :)

Hi snowflake and welcome, I also take spiriva and found the chewy works a treat.

Hello & welcome to the community, well done on giving up smoking. Always rinse your mouth after using inhalers. I sometimes suffer with dry mouth mainly due to being on oxygen but I do find it helps to drink more water which also aids mucus clearance.

Best wishes

Jo :-)

I too am on spiriva and find mouthwash and a gargle helps.

I'm on Spiriva as well as two other inhalers, been using them for 5 years, I don't always rinse my mouth out, bad I know, and now have quite a deep voice, sounds good on the phone, lol

Take care

Peta

Sorry, welcome also.

Welcome snowflake - I use Spiriva too and have never had a problem with a dry mouth - I just take it before I clean my teeth, so sluice it that way. :) xx

Welcome Snowflake. I rinse and gargle to avoid the dry mouth and croaky voice. x

Hi snowflake, I always gargle and clean my teeth after using. I read somewhere that it can be bad for your teeth but gargling will solve that problem. Adrian

Hi Snowflake, I take Spiriva and Seretide and suffer with a dry mouth (tongue sticking to roof of mouth sometimes). I always gargle and for good measure a mouthwash as well. Mine, I suspect is also due to Heart and diabetes drugs I take. I have found my best solution is a Dry Mouth spray and the best (and cheapest) I have found is in the Boots Expert Dental range and is called would you believe, Dry Mouth Spray. I think it was about £2.50 and lasts a long time, you only need a couple of quick spurts each time.

regards

David

thank you everyone for all your tips on the dry mouth , and sorry for not getting back sooner, still trying to get my head around this copd had my pneumonia injection last friday and was told my cholestrol was high 5.2 which i thought wasn't bad they would like it to be 4.00, and i have a slow heart rate which is the same rate as an athlete (no i wont be doing any running anytime soon lol) and my chest x ray was clear, thanks again everyone.

Good news snowflake.

I don't think the cholesterol reading is bad either, you need to eat more lettuce, lol

No time limit when you come on the site, just nice to hear from you.

Take care

Peta
