Back pain

Someone has told me that there is a link between smoking and back pain, I've got sciatica and it's a real pain ! Has anybody else heard of this, thanks folks x

Only time I remember getting back pain when I was smoking was reaching for the lighter when I dropped it.... (sorry... )

I've not heard of that link. But if true then I am glad I managed to quit. Had sciatic pain when I was expecting no.1 son, very nasty. Hope it settles soon.

Looking to pop into Burton On Trent early next month, I put a message up a while back about that one. I won't make Ongar, just too far

As for lifting technique - I've had a bit of practise over the years so I avoid back pain by emptying the glass into my mouth before getting any strains

Looks like it toci, from what I've read seems there is a link, something about nicotine increasing pain. Read science daily on the net and other sites, ho hum x x x

no.I don't think smoke css everything, drinking .drugs,cause a lot of problems,work places outside pollution the list is endless,childhood illnesses etc,sik of med ppl saying its smoking,ppl on drugs smoke the stuff and use cigs,ppl on drink problems smoke but its always the smokers who cop for it sik of it,i went breathe easy this week and was shocked,i saw a woman there I have known her a long time as her son an my son are mates,i asked why u hear not seen u in time,she as copd ,I said eh u have never smoked ,I no that as I have known her 34yrs,she said its passive smoking,worked in oubs clubs bookies for yrs an her long time partener as and still dus smokes cigar after cigar and pi..all wrong with hom,id choke him,my ex smoked in house and was a bad alky they both have zero wrong with them,makes me mad with its all cigs yes cant find the cure blame it on cigs,b ,s,will never except that cra, aids wats that blamed on,alf of that is with bad infected blood transfusions givin to ppl who don't no were the bloods come from so they get aids from bad transfusion/when they get aids only then do they if there still alive get told the truth blood was infected with aids virus,we are sorry,boll..s, take care

Hubby used to smoke years ago but got sarcoidosis which is not caused by smoking apprently. He also has copd (bronchitis) because his lungs are not up to much now. People do what they do, drink, smoke, drugs etc. and just take their chances. Some do not smoke, drink or do drugs and end up with cancer, copd and goodness knows what else. I have no idea why this happens but it does. Take care carroll. xxx

Im with you...I was being sarcastic as yes smoking does nobody any good..but seems to be the drs reason for whatevers wrong with anybody these days. Xx

hi jayab,be sarcy im good with that meself,i don't mind we need it sumtime ,cigs does no good but theres all sorts of reasons for copd init,i no really for 100per cent she as never ever smoked that's why I was shoked to see her,they say immune system plays a part to,but if they really 100 per cent new would have thought wud have sorted it by now,got the technology so ehy,i for 1 now do not blve its just with cigs ,u read daily mail 2day page 11.were theres hope we can hope and pray,hiv 2 ppl given bone marrow good results,so if hiv is brought on by ourselves and sumtime with bad blood transfusions etc why do smokers get rough end of the stick,if some of us have never smoked,could say that to all adults with hiv and aids u done it yourselfs,but don't as ive never seen that written ,take care

Yes I know someone with severe COPD that has never smoked...im a not very gud quitter...keep tryin to stop..but never fully suceeded..you take care too x

Not heard of the link between smoking and sciatica medow but Pete is suffering with sciatica now. He has seen the doctor who has referred him to a spinal triage person(?) No idea when the appointment will come through but in the meantime he will see the physio on Tuesday. I hope you seek and get help with your pain as it is a horrible thing to have. Thanks for your replies, I think I will go back to gp and ask for a referral, that's for the heads up on that one sassy, and I quite agree, smoking gets the blame for everything one gp in our surgery is always reminding me that I was a smoker - broken leg? Well the smoking wouldn't have helped etc I try to avoid him, years ago I had a gp that smoked non stop while in surgery, someone told me it was to hide the smell of the drink !

That sounds like a great way of looking after your back Gordon, making sure the glass is empty, think hubby has the same idea xxxxx
