My husband was given information on breathing exercises from the respiratory nurse - perhaps you could ask them. Please ring the helpline I seem to think they have information on breathing exercises. Good Luck TAD xx

Hello and welcome.

Ask to be referred to a Pulmonary Rehab course they will teach you what exercises to do and how to control your breathing, mine was fantastic gave me confidence and I felt a lot fitter after, normally last about 6 weeks.

Good luck Kim xxx

Simple pursed lip breathing. Inhale say to a count of two, pause, exhale through pursed lips to count of say four, ( double whatever inhale is ). Repeat a fan blowing gently on face will help. Think calming thoughts visualise a calm lake for example, don't panic, it will pass you'll be ok. Good luck,

Chris

Your best bet is pulmonary rehabilitation course as kim suggests I think because on this course you will be advise on the different breathing exercises and many other self help methods you can use to help manage your symptoms and help keep your condition stable.

Your respiratory nurse will also be able to demonstrate certain breathing techniques to help. Check with your surgery for an appointment, the respiratory nurse can also advise the techniques used when using your inhaler medicines.

The main ones taught are diaphragmatic breathing, pursed lip breathing, huffing to help clear mucus, counting breath (longer exhale count than inhale) if you are having difficulty getting air, always breathe out first then inhale, for me I've always found the counting breath most useful which can be combined with pursed lip breathing method and even better when you perfect and include the diaphragm breathing into it.

Hi

In the meantime.... a few handouts on worry and breathing - I have more handouts and diary sheet etc if you would like me to send them please advise (or I can post out hard copies - message me with your postal address or call me at the helpline with your details and I shall have these and more sent out to you). BLF Helpline: 03000 030 555. We also have breathing exercises in the anxiety booklet and this can also be sent out if requested.

I have info on panic, anxiety, depression... you name it and I'll send it! (well almost !).

Cheers

Hi, you may need to contact her directly as she may not see your request.

There are also some good clips on YouTube demonstrating pursed lip and diaphragm breathing. Good luck, stay well. P
