High Pitched Ringing in Ears

Ten days into taking Steroids, and I have noticed the last few days that I have a high pitched ringing in my ears. Never had it before - could it be one of the side-effects? Anything to be concerned about?

I've never experienced this as a side effect of taking steroids. I've had lots of other side effects like weight gain, difficulty sleeping and water retention.

I have had bad side effects so no longer use prednisolone but have never had ringing in my ears. I would mention it to GP or maybe pharmacist, just to be on safe side.

I also never had that as a side effect either.Do go to the Doctors,to rule out tinnitus etc xx

I agree with Wendells. Get checked out as I have tinnitus through taking amytriptalene but Pete does not have any ringing in the ears from steroid use so well worth finding out Jayenne. Let us know any outcome and good luck to you. xxxx

I believe Azithromycin can cause hearing problems but don't know if that includes ringing in the ears.

Best get it checked out.

Hi Polly & Jayenne, I take azithromycin 500mg 3 times a week and have been for a few years now. I have gradually developed high pitched ringing in my ears so I think you are right about that! It seems to get worse as the day goes on... but I manage sometimes to ignore it, then realise it is there again! Not very nice. I've gone quite deaf too, which is worse!!

Move away from the church sweetheart, it's those darn bells. Seriously though, I have taken steroids a lot over the years and had no problems with my ears. I don't remember anyone else on here mentioning it as a side effect either. It looks like a trip to the doctors is in order or you could try the BLF helpline on 03000 030 555
