Have c.o.p.d. on ventolin 200 seretide 500 and spiriva and I can't cough anything up and my chest is always tight .

Hi rick1 - check with your doctor about this, if you are aware it is mucus that you cannot cough up the doctor can prescribe you with some medicine to help you. If the tight chest is not to do with mucus you still need to get that checked out to be sure nothing else is going on. The sooner the better as if you have a lung infection to delay seeing the doctor is not a good idea.

Hello Rick. I have recently got over a long drawn out chest infection. It left me with that sort of tightness wher I wanted to cough up stuff, but nothing happened. I went back t the doctor who was able to confirm I had no more infection.

He gave me Mucodyne to take. After checking on here about how long it takes to work, the answers I got were right, it was about 5 days before I had a productive cough. Having said that, it only seems to shift when I am lying down.

It is much improved though, and that tightness has gone.

I'm not saying you have the same, but it would be worth checking it out. You could also ring the BLF helpline on 03000 030 555. They are very good.

There are various gadgets around to help move the phlegm, the flutter and the flute are just two, I have found the flutter works for me. I still can only cough it up when sitting upright, but nearly always feel the need to cough shortly after lying down. Something to do with all the rubbish shifting around I think.
