It will start to get easier - its just breaking the habit. No easy way. BUT it is worth stopping. PLEASE try to take your mind off it! (easier said than done!). Good luck and keep going - the first hours are by far the worst. GOOD LUCK TAD xx

You can do it Pamela. Just keep saying those magic words: I am a non-smoker. Good luck with it.

Hang on in there! When my twins were born it was a finacial case of fags v nappies and the nappies won. I decided I would have a cig when they were out of nappies. Well, then it was shoes etc so I decided to wait till they were 16. Teenagers are expensive so put it off till they were 18. They then decided to go to uni so 21st birthday the next date to look forward to. They will be 21 on Saturday . Will I have a puff on Saturday? Perhaps I'll wait till they get married........

As far as I'm concerned I haven't stopped. I just haven't had one for 21 years.

It does get easier! Promise!!

Ok I will do annieseed thankyou x

And as if by magic, I appear ....

Well Done. 2 days clear of those nasty white sticks. I'm proud of you Pam, so, so proud. Yes the cravings are horrid..... When they strike - take in a deep breath and hold it as long as your comfy, then slowly exhale..... in that time think of anything you need to do (apart from ciggies of course), and by the time you've finished breathing out, you should have got yourself over that craving..... and that's when a wine gum gets popped in my mouth.... Well, gotta treat yourself for being good, haven't you?

Well done, Pam and congratulations on winning all those battles yesterday, and good wishes on your successful battles for today :)

After an emergency admition to hospital 8 weeks ago, I gave up smoking after 55 years. The first few days are the worse and even after, it can creep up on you and bite yer bum. Keep a good citric juice handy...it lessens cravings, or else just go and do something to distract your thoughts. I found crosswords etc handy or even, heaven forbid, tidy out cupboard or drawer.

From family members,I know that the dreaded habit will still pay you "visits" in 15 or 20 years time but the first time you weeken, you will be a smoker again.
