Chest muscle pain

Hi, I am on Montelukast and Trimbow. At the moment I am also taking Doxycycline for a chest infection. I am no longer coughing as much but I’m finding my chest muscles really ache, particularly on lower left side. Does anyone else get this?

I get pain in my lower chest / diaphragm area during infections / flare ups due to coughing and hard breathing. For me it’s usually muscle strain from overuse and settles with rest, heat and painkillers but it’s an ache I know well.

Have you spoken to your GP or having a review after your antibiotics? You need to keep an eye on it especially since you are being treated for infection and if you have any worries please seek medical attention, you can’t be too careful.

Hi, Thanks for your reassuring reply. I thought it was probably from coughing but will keep an eye on it.

I get left hand chest pain when my Asthma gets bad. The respiratory team always worry that it is cardiac related. However they have checked and it just seems to be how my Asthma is.

I only just found that out myself due to having rang my respiratory nurse who asked do you have a rescue pack which my doctors have never given me even tho i have COPD ,Asthma and Bronchiectasis then covid leaves me with a bug on my lungs. So was given 14 days antibiotics and preds even at 70+ you learn something new every day.x

Yes - I think it's related. I get pain in my left side around the back. Felt like pleurisy which ive had before but I was told it's prob costochondritis from coughing but sometimes get it when I don't cough very much. I use painkillers and a heat pad. Yes you need 2 wks antibiotics, I learnt this to my cost last year. Hope you feel better soon.

Not because of the Montelukast, which has worked really well for me.

Yes, as others have said it could well be from muscles that you don't normally use "kicking in" to help get your lung working while it's infected but because they don't normally get used they strain quickly .... they become quite painful

Also sometimes the infection can leave a sharp and painful feeling (I always describe it as someone's grazed my lung with a razor blade) until it's healed (normally after the antibiotics have finished)

Also you can strain muscles from coughing which also hurts quite considerably

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense.

I always find heat packs, rest and if it's really bad frequent pain killers help

But as someone who has had a chest infection every 2-3 months for the last 8-9 years .... it just takes time to heal and get better
