travel insurance before diagnosis how do I declare?

I was given inhalers for breathing difficulties in in cold weather, in the mean time am waiting for a referral for a lung function test but I have a holiday coming up and I don’t know what to declare on the travel insurance forms. I don’t have a diagnosis am also still using the inhalers to help with my symptoms .

should I declare this on the travel insurance forms and what would I put down am not sure what my problem is hopefully the lung test will tell assuming it’s not weather related .

Please held advise thanks .

Hi

Be honest, declare everything and say you are awaiting a diagnosis.

My insurers ask whether you are awaiting any further tests/ medications and seem to be happy that you are going through a process…

Didn’t have any effect on my premium or ability to obtain insurance. I have severe asthma and take a biologic..amongst many other asthma meds.

Take care😊

Hi LoveWinterSun. I was in the same position. Had attack in March (not yet diagnosed) and was referred for PFT’s. I rang the department and explained the situation saying that the cost of my travel insurance had rocketed because I had an, as yet , undiagnosed condition. (Made that up) She said they quite often got cancellations due to people being too unwell and to ring everyday. I got a cancellation within a couple of days. At the appointment I told the same story and he said he would take them straight to whoever it is that reviews them. I played the same card with the consultants secretary and got a cancellation there.

So, attack and admission on 3 March, saw consultant on 3 April.

Might be worth giving it a try.

It is always best to declare your situation then there is no comeback when the insurers try to find ways not to pay out. If the need arises. I have so many conditions that are listed it is near on impossible for me to get a quote that does not price me out of even going anywhere outside of the UK. My last quote for 2 weeks in Spain in 2012 was £750.00 Plus an excess of £750.00 Per treatment there after? When I just had Asthma and AF, it was £30.00 More!

Some companies will not insure you if you are awaiting a diagnosis unfortunately.

Stay away from Staysure! I had to make a claim for hospital fees in excess of £8000. I had to continually contact them and it took 4 months before they paid out.

Good luck

Yes unfortunately, once you click on awaiting diagnosis alot of them will not slow you to proceed on line . I have read afew bad reviews about Staysure .

I now go through an insurance broker P J Hayman & Co and explain my requirements and they do the legwork. It's not great doing things online when you have various health issues or not yet diagnosed and receiving primary treatment. Talking things through definitely helps navigate any pitfalls. I was going on a long trip a couple of years back and had suddenly suffered a trapped nerve on top of everything else. As the treatment was painkillers plus Amitriptyline, an anti depressant, I wanted to explain why I was on an anti depressant. Good travel insurance that covers pre existing conditions isn't cheap, but you don't want to buy a pup or accidentally give inadequate information.

Thanks, will consider your insurer next time. It’s really hard to do things on line especially when taking medication for something you have not been diagnosed and still waiting for a diagnosis.
