Travel Insurance for us

Sorry for two posts in a row... forum wasn't working for me yesterday

I am going to Germany for 5 days at the end of the month. I am just having a nosey at travel insurance and used the gocompare website.

When I filled in everything about my medical history they quoted me £8.50 and scanned 15 insurers.

When I got rid of the medical condition just to see the difference it was £3.20 for cheapest one so I guess just in case you need medical care for asthma the extra £5 really isn't bad at all. However it scanned 42 insurers on this.... maybe some insurers won't take people with long term conditions and so much medicine?

I was just wondering is there a better company to use for people with long term health conditions or is there a trusted one anyone knows of in general? I am a student so would like a good price. I've never used gocompare before I just used it to have a nosey at. I think I have previously used post office or when I flew with Monarch I used them but I never really paid attention to what I was getting.

No good asking me - most won't insure me at all, the only one which would, was AllClear, and it cost me £300 for nine days in Italy (just as well I got it, as had three admissions!)

I use travel insurance which came with my bank account. There has been posts previously on this so why not have a quick search and read around?

Oh dear nursefurby! That is crazy high, never heard of anything like it. Sounds like your lungs are trying to get you your moneys worth lol

Are you allowed them all though? I have two powder inhalers (pulmicort and oxis, would take salbutamol just in case (not had attack since being on oxis so don't know how i'd be with it), then would need 5 days worth of montelukast and antihistamines and then I have pred for if I get bad.... this OK?

Shouldn't be a problem. Similar to nursefurby, I have flown with multiple medications. Generally, they have never been checked nor I have been asked. Often Ryanair too. Best to have letters or at least a repeat prescription and use original packaging where possible.

The eurostar is great. Not so sure about ferries in the current weather but good not to luggage restrictions.

Hahaa that's nothing - I took nine days worth of 14 different drugs on as hand luggage, plus a nebuliser. And two of my drugs were liquids, which I was anxious about but it was fine. You just have to be prepared, I had a letter from the hospital and my GP so there was no problem. I also spoke to the airline beforehand which helps!

OK I will give my local airline a ring just to make sure.Did you speak to the airlines on both ends? This would make me feel a lot better if I carried everything in hand luggage, just in case anything happened to my bag. I will also get permission a doctors note.

We flew with Ryan air both times (and return flights) and I just had to speak to them this end. They were fantastic - I also needed emergency oxygen for the whole flight both ways much to my embarrassment and they were brilliant. They have a special needs helpline from what I remember, I'm sure other airlines will have a similar thing.

I can't fly anymore, my next plan is to try Eurostar

good to hear they were good. ah yes, what about a ferry? Dover to Calais in approx hour.

I love ferries but Dover is a long way. Can get a fast train to London from Newark and then on to Eurostar. Have to say I'm a little unsure about being under the sea tho!
