I'm going to New york in april next year and have been getting quotes from various travel insurance companies. I've tried all the ones AUK recommend, nearly all of them will not cover me and the one that will wants £480.
I've just tried the PO and they also turned me down. Anyone got any other companies I could try? Or will I have to pay £480 for my trip!
I always check the travel insurance BEFORE even booking a holiday to see if it is worth while.
the US etc will always be a lot more.
I used Heath Lambert - AUK one for Estonia at £120 for a week.
I used to use the PO but they moved the goal posts like a lot of other companies.
Heath Lambert is the better one of the specialists - if I got my act together and had somewhere to go in Europe this year (before my june splat!) I could have got a year policy for europe for £120!!
I haven't found any others reasonably priced that I could suggest.
I would like to go out to Italy but £120 plus for insurance and £80 for Ryanair........ no not at the mo...
Let us know if a good deal found. They always seem to be changing the questions and moving the goal posts......

Thanks for replies and PMs peeps.
Kate, I knew before booking it would cost around that much but was just wondering if anyone had any cheaper suggestions.
The thing I have found is if you answer yes to the questions 'have you had a hosp admission in the last 12/6 (it varies with companies) months' or 'Have you been treated in ITU for your asthma in the last 5 years' then it bumps up the insurance a lot! Its not fair just cause I unfortunately have, the premium is huge. I answered no to see what the difference is and its went from £480 to £180.
I have fortunately found that my bank offers me free worldwide travel insurance with my ultimate reward account and if I pay the premuim they will cover me for a lot loss! So i'm happy
