Out of control UPDATE

Hi again.I posted a few days ago about my having a severe chest infection and exacerbation of Asthma , I was worried because the recovery was taking so long, just feeling wiped out all the time, dizzy and shaky.

Well thanks to my brilliant GP who ordered a whole bunch of blood tests I found out today that my Vit D levals are very low , the rang is 50 to 100 and mine are 20, I'm now on Meds for 3 months then back for more bloods WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT IT WAS SO SIMPLE.

I want to thank each and every one of you that took the time to reply to my post, it was really appreciated ☺️ x

I wish they’d do tests for vitamins and minerals perhaps annually, they make so much difference when they’re out of kilter. Throw in a chronic illness, medications and infections, and we’re on an uphill struggle all the way. It’s a fine balance, and something a little awry can make it all go wrong!🙄.

I hope your Vit D supplementation helps and you get to feeling a bit more normal soon 💐

Thank you beech.I have known for many months that something wasn't right , I take vitamin supplements but Vit D never entered my head as I have a very healthy diet and life style and thought I had it covered, it will take a while but thankfully on the right track now and yes your right , vitamin and mineral tests should be included.

That's great that they do Anselm, I got my B12 and folate checked as well, not magnesium but I take Magnesium anyway .

Is that prescribed for you?

Nerja2012 profile image
Nerja2012 in reply toAnselm198

Anselm, Yes all of it was on Prescription, I have to go back in 3 months for another blood test , I wasn't picking up after my chest infection so that's why they did the bloods .

Magnesium is very important when taking VitD3 as it helps the absorption. VitK2mk7 is also important and prevents calcification of soft tissues (ensures that the cycle of calcium uptake, because of taking VitD3, is targeted to bones & teeth, otherwise we can absorb calcium into soft tissues and that can cause other issues). Both VitD3 and VitK2mk7 are fat soluble, so if they're not already oil based, take them with fats. Ratio to VitD3 is 1/10th, of both elemental magnesium and VitK2mk7.

Poobah You seem very knowledgeable about all this, it's good to know and thank you, I take Magnesium Taurate as it's good for heart health. Got to keep the old ticker going.

During Covid pandemic, the NHS and other reputable organisations were saying how important Vitamin D was and so I started reading about it. Like most vitamins and minerals, it doesn't work in a vacuum without its co-factors. And I hadn't realised that it converts into a hormone either. This diagram explains the interplay between the different vits & minerals.

Very good! I swear by Vit D, especially here in Scotland. It has anti inflammtory qualities.
