salbutamol not helping

hi guys so the doctor thinks I have asthma I’ve had an ongoing cough since feb this year and it goes and comes back. When I breathe it sounds like I’m snoring and my blue inhaler hasn’t worked for it at all. Last week I was coughing up green phylum and now I have a swollen lymph node behind my ear. I’m thinking maybe this isn’t asthma and was just looking for others that have had the same experience or general advice.

I was thrown by the use of the word phylum, I think you mean mucus Yellow or green mucus is a sign of infection so you should get an appointment with either a Nurse Practitioner or a GP who can prescribe you an antibiotic. I'm assuming you are in the UK.

If I were you I'd ask to be referred to respiratory specialist for a proper assessment . I have asthma and also developed bronchiectasis . I take a steroid inhaler (preventer) and only take ventolin as an extra if needed .

It sounds very much like you need to see your doctor for assessment and treatment. Try and get a same day appointment tomorrow, phoning first thing. Say your asthma symptoms are flaring up and your rescue inhaler isn't helping. That should secure you a same day appointment. The doctor can prescribe antibiotics if necessary and better asthma treatment.

If you can't get an appointment tomorrow then phone the 111 service. If they think you should see a GP they can digitally note your records and then ask you to phone your doctor again. The receptionist will see that 111 have recommended an urgent appointment and make that for you.

Infections can cause asthma to flare up, so it's important to get treatment as soon as possible. The fact that your breathing is like snoring and you're bringing up coloured phlegm are red flags for asthmatics. We rarely beat these things without treatment.

Good luck tomorrow.
