I would like to know about natural mucus suppressants as I makes sense to limit the mucus in the bronchial tube and keep it clear and hopefully make Asthma flare less common, Any suggestions welcome please,

Mucus production ans Asthma
Hi, I am also having a lot of issues with mucous at the moment - mainly due to post-nasal drip from recent viruses and allergies. Mine is currently at the worst its ever been. I am currently taking dymista steroid nasal spray, amongst others to deal with the issues. but unaware of any medication to limit or suppress mucous production. If this does exist , i would be very interested! Everything I read suggests preventing the causes, or thinning the mucous by drinking lots of water, propping up your head in bed etc. It is very frustrating when you can't escape asthma triggers
Ru on a steroid inhaler to reduce inflammation.im not aware of anything beyond carbocysteine or N-acetalyne to thin mucous, making it easier to expectorate
search for natural mucus expectorant we use herbal but unfortunately it’s not from UK therefore not everyone can access it but even some teas should help like liquorice, peppermint you can get those from supermarkets.
I have heard a lot about mullein tea but yet to try for my daughter.
Please be careful with anything like this. Pau70 , I advise checking with a medical professional (doctor or pharmacist) to be sure it is safe for people with asthma generally, doesn't contain anything you personally are triggered by and is safe with other medication you use. In general I would suggest asking a doctor for suggestions,. prescription or otherwise, or calling the nurse helpline on 0300 2225800 or WhatsApp on 07999 377 775 Monday-Friday 0915-5pm to chat through options.
My_fairy, not to say you don't check these things, but I wanted to make it clear for anyone reading that it's advisable to do that even with natural products like teas, or over the counter medication.
There are lung clearance techniques.take look on aluk website .also aerobika flutter device( on prescription in uk) is very helpful
Hi,
As others have said thinning secretions to make it easier to remove them is the way forward. I would recommend using breathing exercises to assist when you are having problems too
Lungs are self cleaning organs. Everyone produces mucus, apparently around one and a half cans of soft drink each day, but in people who don’t have lung issues, they naturally secrete them with no issues. When you have a lung condition this process needs help. Hence why we use inhalers etc
