I've been on Montelukast for years and it's really helped my allergies and nasal health, subsequently my asthma. Apart from a few vivid dreams I've not experienced any side effects. It doesn't work for everyone, but you'll know after the first month if it's had a positive impact, same for any side effects.
Carbocisteine, also called carbocysteine, is a mucolytic that reduces the viscosity of sputum and so can be used to help relieve the symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder and bronchiectasis by allowing the sufferer to bring up sputum more easily
I thought Montelukast was for asthma symptoms
Montelukast is used to prevent the symptoms of asthma. It's usually prescribed when asthma is mild and can stop it from getting worse.
It can also help people with asthma who have breathing difficulties when they exercise (exercise-induced asthma) and seasonal allergies, such as sneezing, itchiness and a blocked or runny nose (allergic rhinitis)
I was prescribed Montelukast for mucous in throat. Unfortunately it didn't work for me. I tried it for 2 months. I didn't have any side effects though so it's worth trying. I suppose it depends on what's causing it.Haven't found anything to help yet, driving me mad too !
Thanks for your reply. I do take antihistamine tablets and have flixonase nasal spray. I have Neilmed nasal rinses too. Steaming helps but you can't be doing that all day! Keep trying different things but haven't found that magic solution yet!
Thanks , I tried PPI,s for reflux and diet , lots water , no alcohol, tried nasel sprays like Dymista nothing worked so far , it’s just intermittent through a day and days , can’t figure it out yet 😩
I've been using sterimar for congestion relief which maybe easier alternative to nasal rinses.i swapped to beconase which has been better 4 me,currently x
Montelukast does nothing for my allergies and asthma. Nothing!! Zyrtec D helps more. I still take the montelukast though just because I have it. The post nasal drip is constant.
I have been on this for about 2 years, my cough has improved no end, I still have to clear my throat occasionally, I do not get any side effects and I have so many allergies to medication usually, give it a go x
