I seem to be (almost) constantly clearing my throat, with a regular cough (which is ""un-productive). It seems that the irritation is mainly low down and all I do is cough and clear my throat to sort of move it around temporarily. That is I get a brief relief then I go through the same thing again.
I seem to get the opportunity to have a good cough shortly after taking my inhaler - Symbicort 200/6 (3 puffs x2 daily) plus use as reliever .
I found this interesting because over the past month I have been constantly clearing my throat. It's very annoying both to me and those around me! It's also making me feel like I've ""sprained"" my throat (I know it's a weird way to put it but don't know what else to call it!).
Mine doesn't seem to clear properly no matter what I do - within minutes of clearing my throat it clogs up again.
No ideas to offer I'm afraid but will watch this with interest to see what others say!

Hi Gavin,
Know what you mean. Diagnosed last year with asthma, my inhalers had put a stop to it all.
These last few days, I've felt my cough is stopping a good peak flow reading too. I'm on 3 puffs of Symbicort 200/6 twice daily too.
As our barometer headed to Fair and Very Dry, that's when the cough and clearing of throat came back.
Best wishes
GM
PS Like your quote on Profile.
A friend of mine who isn't asthmatic had similar problem. Also kept loosing his voice. He's a vicar so does a lot of public speaking. His dr, said it was to do with acid reflux. so was put on to ant acids. Which worked. And of course asthmatics tend to suffer with reflux.
hi
Gavin
My throat is also the same and feels like rubbish stuck to the back of my throat and always coughing,
not sure how to stop but glad to here im not alone .

Phew... glad to read that it isn't just me then... having only very recently discovered that I have asthma I also have the same cough symptoms that abate for a couple or so hours after taking a couple of puffs of salbutamol... and I am prone to acid reflux too... hmmmm... I am soooo glad that this forum exists!
That's very interesting - I started suffering with acid reflux recently too....may have to raise this issue with the asthma nurse!

Hi Gavin,
Sounds familiar to me, too.
My GP thought it could be post nasal drip so the mucus is trickling back down my throat and irritating it, making me cough and feeling gunky (hmm, nice!). She prescribed a nose spray / drops which you can get over the counter as well. I did try them and, to be honest, didn't really notice an improvement but decided to stop because I found the smell disgusting!
Whilst it didn't work for me, it might be worth a try.

Hello one and all, this is my first post but I am not new to the forum. Couldn't help replying to this though as for months now and especially over christmas I seem to be clearing my throat. Sometimes it is mucussy sometimes just a syrupy type of saliva. I am on symbicort 400/12 two puffs twice a day. I kept thinking it would go away as it was connected to the inflamaton part of the asthma and I kept reading that inhaled steroids take a few weeks to work. Then when it didn't, I began to think it was because the powder just wasnt reaching the area of the throat covered in it and so couldn'd do its job, I then began gargling water just before the doses. this seemed to work for a few hours but then at least before my next dose would be gargling again. If it is a function of inhaling powder for whatever purpose on a regular basis that causes this excess stuff then it really is the lesser of two evils. When clear though for a brief period breathing is noticably easier.
Don't know if this helps you, but there does seem to be a pattern emerging with muliple doses of symbicort. perhaps someone who prescribes a lot of it may have a better idea
