I have been using Montelukast for years now with no side effects. It works for me as part of my asthma control plan. Some people do have side effects, but, I suppose that happens with most medication.

I found it a game changer when I started taking it many years ago. It’s still part of my medication with no side effects or issues.Good luck xx

It worked quite well for me, no nightmares etc, but after a couple of years I started getting terrible gut issues and consultant told me to stop. Those issues resolved.

You will know quite quickly if it’s working for you. If it is persevere if you get side effects. I had terrible dreams for the first few weeks but it eventually calmed down and definitely helped with my phlegm and constant coughing. Great drug if it works for you but doesn’t suit everyone. Good luck with it x

Hiya, It didn’t help me at all unfortunately, I had vivid dreams, always felt unsettled. I stayed with it for a number of months and when I advised the consultant, he advised me to stop it . Saying that everyone is different, and you may find it beneficial

I started Montelukast about 5 weeks ago and I'm finding it very effective for my mucus, also fairly effective for allergic rhinitis. I'm very impressed.

There are some very serious side effects in some people; my consultant and pharmacist told me to keep them updated how I get on, but so far I'd say I only have positive things to say about it.

If your producing lots of mucus.... the nurse Is a numpty ... montelukast is useful in treating asthma caused by allergies as it does "something" to the muscle wall to make them less twitchy when they come in contact with allergens

Hypertonic saline nebulised or carbocistine are useful for clearing mucus (by making it really thin and not very sticky) ... carbocistine's only purpose in life is to make mucus "like pee" so it moves easily

Then again, some allergies produce mucus. Stop the allergy, you stop the mucus.
