Montelukast

I am taking montelukast from 2 weeks. And I am having several side effects from it. I feel like I am going to die. My gastric is being worse. My coughing hasn't stopped and shortness of breath. I always do vomit after eating. I am having urine burn and nerves irritation. Plz help me deal with it. Should I stop medication. But when I do vomit I feel better.

It sounds like you could do with speaking to your GP. While one needs to work through side effects usually, when they're at a point they're causing that level of impact then it warrants a review I think.

However it sounds rather like severe reflux - presumably you had that before anyway from what you describe but perhaps the montelukast has made it worse? Are you on medication for it?

Hi Manoze,I have been on Montelukast for about 9 months and have struggled with vivid dreams and waking up in the night from the beginning as well as muscle cramps. However, it does seem to have a good effect on shortness of breath, coughing and wheezing so I want to persevere. As I am quite a small build, I am trying the children’s 5mg dose (Up to 14 year old dose) to see if that will ease the side effects. As Twinkly says, it would be a good idea to discuss possible side effects and reflux which does sound severe with your GP.

I would 100% speak to GP. I had severe stomach pain and vomiting on it and had to stop after 3 nights of taking it. Gp put me down as allergic to it - please speak to them, you can’t keep vomiting after food x

Sorry to hear you’re having such a bad reaction. I also started on Montelukast this week and I take omeprazole for the reflux and so far have been ok. 🤞

I would go back to the GP if I were you. Are you taking anything for the reflux?
