Medication advice please

Hi , I’ve recently been in hospital with heart problems, one of the triggers seems to be my Seretide 250 , 2 puffs a day ( I’m not suggesting this could cause anyone else problems or that anyone would stop taking it ) my asthma nurse was very defensive for some reason and wouldn’t prescribe anything else 🤷🏻‍♀️

At the moment I’m taking montelukast daily and using my ventolin as required but I know that I shall sooner or later become wheezy etc any body have any ideas please

Hmmm. Difficult one and 🙄 to the nurse. Have they said exactly what it is about the seretide? Eg steroid bit or the LABA (long-acting bronchodilator)? I think I'd ask to speak to your GP, discuss what hosp said and the reaction from the nurse. They might be able to try different preventer inhalers maybe. Of course it's a difficult situation but, equally, undertreating asthma isn't exactly going to be good for your heart (or lungs) either!

My heart beat was all over the place down to 30 several times etc etc big coincidence that these episodes where I was in hospital on monitoring were happening 10 min after I used my seretide easing off until I used it again and off went the alarms , I went cold turkey for 3 days and the symptoms went altogether so for me it’s a no brainier and 9 days on I’m fine just minimal asthma treatment

No I'm not saying it's not that! Just did they say which bit of the inhaler it might be? Possibly the LABA bit given the speed of reaction, so the salmeterol?

Have you been on other asthma inhalers before?

It's possible, if it is the salmeterol, that another preventer inhaler with a different LABA element would be ok. Or maybe they could try a just steroid inhaler. But I think you need to discuss it all with your GP as it's very individual.

I’ve been on everything for years and was so happy on the the seretide 250 , have to be honest I was on resus and urgent cardio and they were concentrating on my heart not the asthma side of it and I had the most excellent service anyone could have for which I’m very grateful ❤️The follow up was left to my asthma nurse who all but called me an idiot so I’ve no idea what part of the inhaler was causing the problem, prior to stopping the consultant said I ad extreme bi-Gemini and needed an urgent pacemaker two days later on the sonogram my heart is normal etc and all stats great .

I just wondered if anyone might have had something similar and how they handled it ?

I’m going to give the docs a call on Monday and see if there’s a lower dosage of a preventer I can try and I really appreciate your input 😊

Hopefully the GP will be more helpful!
