Hi, I have silent reflux and that gives me a feeling of a lump in my throat when it's bad. The ENT consultant said the feeling was due to swelling in the throat around a sphincter due to the acid. I have to take antacids every evening and it took a while to settle it down completely. Hope that helps.

Thank you for your advice, does it give you a funny sensation when you swollow? I probably need to go and see the Asthma nurse but it difficult to get an appointment at the moment,.

Yes, it did. It felt like there was something stuck in my throat that I couldn't quite get down or cough up.

I have managed to get appointment with asthma nurse no difficulty. At very least you should be offered telephone appointment. Nurse can then decide if needs to see you. Having said which you may be better off asking for gp appointment. Again same system re telephone appointment. This is because if you in middle of flare up then gp would need to see you due to potential medications required.....

If you are bad or worsen over weekend don’t forget (if UK) that 111 available. They can arrange for you to speak to/see out of hours Gp. Asthma can be serious and should be treated that way. Especially when you are new to situation.

Thank you so that really helps, I will see how it goes over the weekend and if no better I will call docs on Monday.

Hello. My ENT advised just blasting the acid reflux by taking a gavsicon after dinner and right before bed for a period of a few weeks. Since I was seeing a physiotherapist they also helped by doing some laryngeal stretches on my neck which made the feeling of the lump in my throat disappear quite quickly! I haven't had this lumo in my throat feeling yet so far this year but in hindsight I actually think it was post nasal drip that was causing me to feel that way last year likely because allergies were causing my asthma to flare up and they also seemed to be causing that! Best of luck with it.

Yes every time I have a bad flare up. I am already on treatment dose omeprazole so I don’t think it’s reflux. The only thing that helps it resolve is a course of steroids
