I am a 22 year old young adult. My asthma has deteriorated since last month, so my doctor advised I used monteleukast. For those with severe asthma, did it ever improve your symptoms. Because I now use my reliever inhaler up to 5 times a day and this scares me a lot

Monteleukast and uncontrolled asthma
Montelukast is very commonly prescribed, often as the first add-on after a combi inhaler, sometimes even after just a steroid inhaler. It doesn't work for everyone (as with all asthma meds, it's a personal thing as to what suits) but, for many people, it is brilliant. It can take several weeks to kick in so you might not see a difference very quickly. It's also worth monitoring symptoms and peak flow during this time as it helps to provide evidence (over time) as to its effect.
There are plenty of other options if things aren't controlled on this so try not to worry - and hopefully this will be just the thing you need. It is definitely possible to become controlled or controlled again so hang in there . And well done for seeking advice from your GP because many people don't and just keep on using their reliever - so you've done the right thing.
I was told its like "marmite, you either love it or hate it"
I take it and have done for ages, it doesn't appear to do much, although I seem to get less chest infections with it so it must do something
Ive taken montelukast for years and the consultant has just changed it to be taken 2 times a day. Its been a really good thing for me and I would really struggle without it. I was told that people can get bad dreams on it and although I have the odd nightmare its worth it to help with my flare ups and admissions
