Help with night wheeze and cough please

Hello, I was diagnosed with asthma a year ago, it has been well managed until hitting a bug a few weeks ago. My Dr has prescribed a second prescription of steroids and antibiotics to help kick it. I'm unable to get up and do anything with a coughing fit. But nights are my enemy. I wake up hourly unable to breath struggling for breath and coughing intensely. I'm propped up as best I can and using my ventolin hourly. I should also mention I'm 36 weeks pregnant. I need help to breath at night and sleep to help me recover.

I would advise you to get in touch with your midwife ?

What other asthma meds are you on? Are you able to take your reliever inhaler before sleep in order to head off any nighttime asthma?

I'm wondering if you're experiencing reflux given your advanced pregnancy and the courses of antibiotics. Reflux is often worse overnight when we lie down but can also happen during the day in pregnancy. It can trigger asthma and because you're waking hourly and coughing you've become super tired. Have a chat with your midwife or GP for advice on safe resolutions for reflux. In the meantime you could add a live probiotic yoghurt to your daily diet to counteract the effects the antibiotics have had on your gut microbiome. Magnesium oxide is also good and here is a link to other options babycenter.com/pregnancy/he...

You'll know if you take antacids before bed if reflux is the problem as your symptoms should reduce. If you find no change to your symptoms then definitely talk with your doctor in case pollen or another trigger is causing your coughing etc.

Hello, also for me is better when I sleep a bit upper, like 45 degrees, on some pillows...it used to make it easier to breath. I do talk to my GP when symptoms do not subside in 3 days, in order to change treatment or dosage. A baby mama should be comfortable! I wish both of you well!
