Too much Fostair

Hi I have a cough and accidentally took 4 bad puffs of Fostair 200/6 in the night instead of ventolin. Bad isn’t that I was coughing lots so coughed out, but still 4 puffs.

Any advise? Thought I’d skip morning dose and use ventolin. Then eve as normal?

It’s really not a bad cough and my asthma is never bad enough to warrant steroids etc.

Thanks

You don’t need to miss any dose for your ventolin. Just try it to keep doing 4 doses 😉. If the ventolin helps to stop your cough then try and think about keeping on top of it with vent, however if you find it’s not helping then either the cough isn’t being caused by asthma, or you do need more help.

Hope this helps and that you feel better soon.

Thanks I just wondered about the overdose of steroid?

I think it will be fine - as a one off thing a couple of extra doses won't hurt. I'd do your normal morning doses and forget about it. It sounds like you're normally well controlled on the Fostair so wouldn't want to start messing with missed doses in case that changed things!

I’ve been having other issues, especially tingling hands and feet. They’re bad today - any link? Could be coincidence.

Very likely to be coincidence or actually caused by the coughing (their cause of muscle tightness causing irritation of the nerves), or (more likely) a symptom that your breathing is off and have a breathing pattern issue going on (usually it’s hyperventilation that causes tingling).

It won’t do you any harm as a one off. With ICS there a limit on what your lungs actually absorb. It’s why that’s a ‘max’ dose for inhalers that most asthma specialist (tertiary) consultants don’t go past cause your lungs don’t actually get anything more. The LABA in the fostair is more likely to cause an issue with an increased dose, but you were still within the ‘prescribe if needed’ dose for that, if that makes sense. A one off accidental increase of fostair won’t do any harm (other than maybe increase the initial side effects like palps etc)

So basically in case it wasn’t clear (brain fog today 😅), is carry in as normal with your AM and PM dose. The LABA will be out of your system by now and the steroid as I’ve already said will have reached your limit and not gone passed it.
