Shingles vaccine and asthma

I am the age where you are invited to have the shingles vaccine, and I need to decide soon, as the offer is time limited. It is clear from what I have read that you should not take it if you are on oral steroids, but it suggests that inhaled steroids are fine. Has anyone had this and how was it? I am concerned as my asthma has left me feeling in less than energetic form since last autumn (I am not good with winters anymore, sadly). I don’t want something that is going to slow me down more, but then again I have seen elderly people with shingles, and it can be nasty. Thus it would be interesting to hear from others who have had it.

I am going for my shingles jab tomorrow. I'll try & remember to comment if my asthma deteriorates. I hope it doesn't as I've just got back on track. It was my asthma nurse who suggested I have it, so hopefully there won't be a problem.

Good to know! Sadly the last asthma nurse I saw wasn’t so much on the ball, so it felt pointless to ask (not that I remembered.). I may ask you ..........provided I remember your name now that my brain is ageing..........

I had a shingles vaccination with no side effects. The nurse did ask about oral steroids as I’d had a prescription a few months previously but this was an emergency patch which I hadn’t used. Inhaled steroids were not a problem.

I had a shingles jab. No problem and definitely better than getting shingles.

Yes, I don’t want shingles. I have already had it ones, about 30 years ago or so, and it was mild, and low on my back, but even with that I would get recurring discomfort/ burning pain down the nerves of one leg when tired or stressed or run down for a few years. Now it is long since gone. You can get it twice.
