I have been prescribed Montelukast in addition to my regular Symbicort and Ventolin. I tried 28 days of Montelukast and it worked well, but I have only been prescribed another 28 day of it...if I have to order every month it will be a pain ( I don't live near the town)...does anyone else get more boxes per prescription.
Many thanks all,
x

I do have 2 boxes on my prescription, but it is unusual for GPs to prescribe more than one month's worth of medication per prescription to avoid stockpiling/medication wastage on a large scale across the country. Do you get more than one Symbicort per prescription? If so, you might be able to make a case for getting more Montelukast too.
Hi! Would you be able to access a pharmacy that can deliver? During lockdown I really didn't feel happy going to my pharmacy all the time for my prescriptions, so I looked into seeing about getting them delivered and I signed up to Pharmacy 2 U... I order it through there app as and when needed and it gets delivered straight through the post within a couple of days (I do usually order early enough just in case of any delays with approval from GP surgery or with royal mail delivering) I believe there are many other different pharmacies that deliver when I looked in to it, but I went with Pharamcy 2 U as at the time they were the only ones allowing new customers and in the last 6 months I've had no issues or delays with repeat medications... and if I was ever to need anything urgent my GP is still able to send them to my local pharmacy x
You would definitely only be prescribed one month’s supply to start with, just in case you had trouble with side effects or they didn’t help you. Only after you’re stable on them and anything else you’re taking, and you’ve had a meds review with the GP might they increase the quantity. This is to help prevent wastage and also stockpiling. I’m not sure how expensive they are too. Ask your GP when you have your next review?
I agree with RSKi you need to wait til you had a review of the medication to see if it works for you. If it does then I dont see why you cant have it bi monthly.
I've been on Montelukast for about 3 years now and have only ever had 1 months supply at a time. I use an online pharmacy that delivers though so they send me a text reminder with a link to click when I should need to reorder, literally just takes a few seconds and it arrives 2 or 3 days later. Hassle free
I have three boxes per prescription. Having said that, every year my GP practice change their minds on how much to prescribe for each of my meds, which means I'm always ordering something as nothing runs concurrently.
I used to get 3 monthly prescriptions but that changed to monthly in a national effort to reduce waste. Can you not get them delivered? There are a few companies who carry out this service, plus it would save you from going into a chemists during this virus season and pandemic
It’s a general requirement that meds are only prescribed 1 month at a time to avoid waste when meds are changed. Have you thought of getting your GP to redirect your prescription direct to your supermarket or pharmacy?
Hi usually only a months supply I was talking to pharmacist and she said they cant prescribe more than 1 months stock. Due to wastage amongst other things. Some pharmacies deliver or if in shielding group local council can help collect meds.
I only get my nasal spray and fexofenadine monthly my others meds including montelukast I get bi or tri monthly but when I first started the montelukast it was monthly until they knew it was working then it was increased in line with my other meds.I can’t over order them as they don’t get allowed on my repeat until close to the date I need to reorder them though x
I get 2 months at a time but have been on all meds for a while so perhaps they can see I'm not changing or wasting them? I agree it makes sense not to do this with a new med in case it doesn't work, so you may need to try it for a while then discuss if you haven't changed and find it helpful., can you move to getting more at once?
There are a few delivery services out there, though not sure if all taking on new customers. I personally didn't get on with Pharmacy2U after they were unhelpful and uncommunicative about a med that was nationally unavailable; when I asked about the delay not knowing the reason, they just kind of shrugged and wouldn't tell me anything. (I get not knowing the issue off the top of their heads, but they seemed to be saying they couldn't even check why it was delayed and it wasn't their job. I guess I could have checked sooner but the lack of response/information and helpfulness was unimpressive so I stopped using them after that). I think I tried Echo or another one who were better -I agree much more helpful to get delivered if you can.
I get mine on repeat prescription and am given a 6 month batch which is sent to the chemist and picked up monthly with the rest of my meds
I get two preventer and two reliever inhalers at a time, but that’s mostly because I have seasonal variation in how much I take with the preventer and I don’t want to get caught out. With the relievers I rarely need to use them and so will order when expiry date is approaching. I’m allowed two of those because I always keep one in my bedroom and one in my bag so that I have always have one with me. I think it helps that the surgery is in a very rural area and so has its own dispensary. They keep an eye on the timings of all my prescriptions though and on the odd occasion when there’s been a request earlier than they would expect they will query it.
