Funnily enough my Clenil is being swapped to pulmicort turbohaler over the next day (which I think is purely budesonide powder). I was getting too many laryngeal Spasms from the aerosol effect. I’ll be interested in what others say. I used symbicort years ago and seemed to tolerate it.

Hi Gracey. Yes its the same drug. Fostair for me gave me lots of throat issues. Worse when inhaling. Awful flappy tickle. I understand Fostair has many excipients which can give and did 'give the side effects. Im hoping to have far fewer side effects now. Only day 2, but heres hoping. Take care.

Hi Gracey. How's pulmicort change working out? At the moment I'm happy to say the throat spasms have completely stopped since stopping fostair. A double happy is no more bad mouth tastes. Maybe down to omeprazole sorting reflux. Happier days. I hope your also getting relief. Keep well.

I am expecting you to get some replies saying "omg it's amazing, changed my life...." and others saying "ugh no worst inhaler ever" 😅 - depending if it's suited people (as with all meds I suppose).

I'm on it in a couple of inhalers. I like it, works well for me, no side effects I've noticed. What form is yours? Have you been given a timeframe to test it for?

Hi Twinkly. Day 2 of Easyhaler Budesonide 200. One puff twice a day. I really struggled with Fostair.Lots of throat irritation even after gargling. Worse when inhaling. I'm hoping Budesonide will make life a lot easier..I will be able to be more objective in a few days. My Gp has asked me to contact him in 3 weeks to discuss how I got on. Earlier contact if any concerns. Take care

Hi Twinkly....throaty Larynx irritation now starting. Seems I'm a victim of steroids. Do the wash mouth. Is this how it's to be ?????

Do you also have a drink of water after washing your mouth out? Just wonder if that would clear anything lower down?

Hi.....I wash and gargle. Should i drink water after that?

I don't know, to be honest. I was just trying to think of something that might stop throat tickle or irritation further down than back of mouth/throat.

Hi Bertyboy, just wondering if the Fostair was the Nexthaler or the MDI inhaler? It might be that the type of inhaler device is the problem for you, and you would do better on a metered dose inhaler (like the standard Ventolin most people use).

If you do get an MDI one ask for a spacer to use with it as that makes it easier to use and to get where it's needed, and reduces side effects in the mouth/throat. It may still be an idea to gargle at least with water afterwards, but hopefully if the powder is what's irritating you, you won't get any irritation with a non-powder inhaler

Hi, yes I wondered which type of Fostair though? One kind has a dry powder and looks like this - the Nexthaler. If you had that one I wondered if maybe inhalers with powder are causing problems:

The other one looks like this - no powder:

From what you say your Dr has changed your script from Fostair to a steroid only inhaler. It'll be interesting how you get on without the long acting bronchidilator med. Please keep us posted.

Hi Poobah. I'm happy to report throat tickles etc completely stopped since switching from fostair No more bad tastes which is likely to be courtesy of omeprazole. Much happier and getting on with it. Thanks for your support.

Hi...hope your well. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm unlucky with steroid inhalers . It's now day 9 and I am experiencing slight irritation of throat lower down. Prob larynx. It's not a tickle I got from fostair. Weird. I wash out mouth and brush teeth. Maybe this is how it's going to be????

I use dry powder inhalers so if I start to get any sign of an irritated throat I will gargle with listerine, several times a day if necessary. Otherwise I take a big drink after using inhalers before brushing teeth etc. in order to clear mouth and throat.

Some patients are sensitive to steroids but this usually happens upon use rather than days later.

If the irritation persists and you don't feel that the medication is quelling your asthma symptoms then tell your doctor. Hopefully these side effects will pass.

I have been on budesonide pulmicort flexhaler for about 4 years now. I was gradually cutting down on dosages buy lost my motivation due to other health issues. It's a pain to have to take 4 puffs a day but at least I'm not short of breath in the mornings anymore.

Not what you're looking for?
