To self isolate or not ????

Hi , I’m new to this site but writing as I’m worried about the mixed messages I’m getting. I’ve seen news feeds saying as an asthmatic I should self isolate for 12weeks and others saying I should be social distancing. At work , I’m a radiographer working clinically with the public in X-ray , my Trust says as long as I’m not in contact with high risk groups ie those on ventilators, I am ok to work .

I am anxious about this situation and on a few occasions I have got a chest infection when I have a respiratory virus

Many thanks

The latest information can be found at:

gov.uk/government/publicati...

Those considered vulnerable should practice stringent social distancing. Full details in link above. However, if you have symptoms of Covid-19 then you should self isolate.

The government has indicated that 12 weeks self isolation will be the next step. The way things are moving it's best to check daily at gov.uk

BTW thank you for all your great work in radiology - it's high time we showed our appreciation to all our health care professionals. 🤗

Thanks Poobah , it’s all confusing but will continue with the social distancing except at work where that’s impossible!

Will keep looking at links to see if the next step is self isolation x

I was wondering, as you quite rightly say social distancing is impossible for you when you are at work, so can you use a mask. Also, would it be possible to talk to HR to ensure chest X-rays are done by colleagues?

I’m in the same position as yourself. I have stage 4 asthma. I am also a nurse. I had a bad bout of pneumonia last year , with an asthma attack that I needed adrenaline for. I need clarity too. How can we work 2 metres away from our patients. I’ve not had anything at work telling me what to do either.

Hi , after a bit of pestering at work I’ve been told I and 3 of my colleagues with underlying health conditions have been removed from the frontline to a support role . This is a little reassuring as I will still be in the vicinity of patients but not actual patient contact .

I hope this helps and I think we also need to keep an eye on updates re self isolation

Good luck to you all with keeping healthy

I’m still front line. Have we the right to ask for a risk assessment, or do you think this is asking too much?

Re your health I think you need to be proactive- definitely ask for a risk assessment . It’s you that will be affected if you get sick, you have to deal with the consequences. Look after yourself
