Hi all, I hope you are safe and well,

Im having a problem with HR saying they need a letter otherwise I have to continue work. I work in care and unable to social distance and in close contact with clients I feel very anxious and as of yet, I have had no letter or email and I am due to work this weekend. I shielded from March to August and now HR saying they need the new letter and wondered if you had any advice, so worried about this.

Kind regards to all😊

Have you checked your spam email? And the email address you registered with? At the end of shielding did you get a ‘your details have been saved for contact if you need to shield again’?

If you can’t find anything sign yourself off/ask your GP to sign you off tomorrow until your letter arrives. Last time my GP sent me one for my ESA application ‘just in case they don’t allow you to use the letter’ 😂

Hope this helps. And if you got a letter last time I *think* they are planning on sending hard copies of the email out too but next week so hopefully that will come in time for next week even if not this weekend...

Hi

Thank you for replying, much appreciated😊

I can't remember giving the email but did sign up to support back in March. It's so very confusing. I got 2 letters one in March and then in July. The letter in July said that details were saved in case of future sheilding

Today I rang the doctors and the receptionist said that the doctors were not writing letters.

I am wondering if to ring HR up tomorrow.

Thank you again

It won’t be a letter but what I mean is a sick note to sign you off until your letter arrives... (ie like you would if you had flu etc... signed off until fit for work)

Does the nhs have your email? Or did you give it when you applied for support on line? Cause if they are both no I suspect that’s why they haven’t emailed you 😅

You should have one coming. So definitely talk to HR and explain the situ and I would get yourself signed off until your letter arrives!

Hi,

I have just downloaded the nhs ap and sent my details, back in March I registered with gov support so may have put e mail in that but can't remember lol I used to get text messages from corona service but never emails , it's all so confusing for all at the moment. Thank you for your help 😊 I have felt very anxious about it but finding such lovely people on here has helped me 😁

Make sure ur GP has ur email address as that’s where the Gov pull most of the info from.

There is something called the National Portal, that all GP patients are on. if ur classed as CEV, it is noted there and when they log in to ur info, ur status flashes up.

Agree with emma get sick note as back up.

First lock down I didn't get "the letter" until 18th April so worked until then I'm also a nurse so wasn't ideal 🤣😂 in fact actually it was respiratory nurse who rang me and told me to leave work immediately then I had to chase gp, .gov etc for letter. But strangely this time got email straight away! Good luck.

I signed up to online services from my GP practice at the start of the first lockdown so that I could order meds online, therefore my records were updated with my email address. Has your practice a similar service (my GP practice is linked to Patient Access, a national digital platform for GP patients)? Ensure you're signed up, especially your main email address.

The latest letter, dated 2 Nov, to GPs from NHS England clearly states that they are responsible for keeping their patients records updated with their clinically vulnerable status. So your GP has access to that information and should be able to confirm that to you that you're on the SPL (shielding patients list) held on the NHS digital platform. They may not be able to issue letter, but they will know your status.

Hello, I am in the same situation as you with regards to not being able to work as can’t social distance and work in care, also shielding since March!

Originally I didn’t get a letter called me doctors up, they had to mark me high risk and then they printed a letter for me and send it out... when sheilding ended I phoned the doctors and they wrote me a letter to say if couldn’t social distance then couldn’t work... I received an email not yesterday the day before to remain indoors and shield and not to go to work... I’ve been on furlough and work have just re furloughed me as it states in government email this is allowed. Is this something you could speak to your work about?

I find if I speak to the nurse at the doctors I get more support than from the receptionist and they normally deal with my requests or needs...

Definitely do not return to work if you aren't able to social distance or you don’t feel safe! Explain to them that in light of the new news you are trying to sort a letter and will get back to them by Monday and keep hounding the doctors... even if you get a sick note until then to cover you the weekend xx hope this is helpful and you get sorted xxx

I had an email. Have you checked your inbox and junk to be sure you haven’t missed it? If you can’t find it I would suggest speaking to your GP surgery.

I had an email but have also just had a letter today, which says it can be used as proof for employers. So hopefully you will get a hard copy soon even if no email. :)
