Hi I’ve been exactly the same cannot shift phlegm plenty of honey and lemon drinks doesn’t seem to help I’m at a loss of what to do any tips from anybody would be appreciated as pleghm seems to get stuck then I struggle to breathe
I started with sore throat cold and I went to pot have to say phlegm now subsided but still have tight chest got asthma review coming up so will discuss then as I have issues with seretide
I've just had a chest cold, first in ages. Two weeks in and still trying to get rid of the symptoms as it's making my asthma worse. Despite upping my meds, gargling (sore throat), paracetamol (temperature), Beconase (sinuses & post nasal drip) it's taking its time to depart.
When I was younger two weeks would see me fully recovered from bronchitis but now a cold takes ages to get over. Not sure if it's age or the type of virus that now knocks about.
I'm the past when I had saline nebuliser it would really help clear stubborn phlegm.
Now the professionals don't want us to have nebulisers at home.
I agree that a very phlegmy chest is suffocating and is normal in my experience. My physio recommends breathing exercises, done regularly when feeling well, will help whenever I get a chest cold/infection as lungs are stronger and breathing technique better. Something to consider for the future maybe.
Any phlegm that sticks around for three weeks suggests a follow up appointment with the doctor.
If you've had hospital treatment then I would expect a follow-up appointment with my doctor to ensure everything is as expected three weeks after.
Thanks for the replies..it's crazy as I feel the phelgm is in my left lung I'm hoping that it's nothing more serious..I am keen to get breathing exercises
We're you seen by the hospital asthma nurse when you were admitted? If so and you have contact details for them they would be able to give advice about current symptoms. They phoned me today to see how I am and advised me to slow down weaning off prednisolone and to step down by 5mg at a time instead of 10 because my asthma is still unstable (I am in amber zone of my asthma plan) and requiring quite a lot of Ventolin.
