Back in the autumn I was given a one month trial of monteleukast- was really looking forward to it at that time as I was hoping to reduce my steroid load. But I only managed three days- symptoms so much worse - really tight chest like I was wearing a tight band. I stopped and immediately felt better. My GP believed me and we moved on but in a review with the practice specialist this week I was treated with scepticism 😒 Apparently people tend to be responders (in a positive way) or non responders. Just wondering if anyone else has had a bad reaction like this?

I am on montelukast and I had no problems with it just getting from the pharmacist I use but that's been sorted out
Did about 4-6 weeks but thankfully the asthma nurse agreed that was enough time to demonstrate that the increase in lung capacity wasn’t worth the negatives
I was put on montelucast over 3 years ago and immediately felt unwell. High temperatures and aches. I mentioned it at an emergency doctor appointment and was told to continue taking it.
My aches and high temperatures continued so I stopped it after advice from a pharmacist. I don’t mean to cause you to panic but my story then becomes a little scary as I was admitted to hospital.
I was diagnosed with a rare type of vasculitis called Churg Strauss Syndrome which was a listed side effect of montelukast.
Having this condition turned my world upside down but doctors refused to link my condition to the drug despite the facts being printed on the montelukast leaflet.
My advice would be to see a doctor and seek their opinion about the side effects of the drug.
Oh my goodness Harry! Thanks for sharing. Thank goodness the pharmacist stopped it. Can’t believe the doctors refused to link your condition to the drug! Pharmacist 1 Doctor 0!!!
Thanks for the advice. I’m defo going to refuse it if it’s offered again.
I am much better now. Thank you. I will be on medication for the rest of my life and I now have an internal defibrillater as my heart was damaged so badly. However, I am back working full time and able to have a full life which is better than a number is people with CSS.
