I was wondering if anyone has ever been given ketamine to treat an asthma atrack? I am currently in hospital after an asthma attack a week ago. I was brought into A&E by ambulance, and I have severe brittle asthma. Whilst in resus the drs decided to give me ketamine to open my airways. I have never had that before, but they said it was a choice between that or putting me to sleep to ventilate me. I was also given ketamine when they brought me to ICU. Have any of you been given this before? And how common is it to be given ketamine?, as I can't find much online about ketamine for asthma attacks?
Thanks

I haven't experienced this, however, there are some research papers available online that explore the use of low dose ketamine for severe asthma attacks. From what I read, it can prevent the need for intubation. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
