Just wanted to do a quick poll for those of you on xolair (omalizumab)—how long did it take to kick in and start controlling your symptoms? I’m getting my sixth shot in a week but am still struggling. Thanks!!

How long did xolair take to work for you?
My teenage son had injections every 4 weeks, took about 4 months for his severe asthma to improve. Much better after 7-12 months. He’s been on them for 5 years now and leads a very active life. But he still takes a lot of medication and has bad asthma if he gets a cold.
Good luck and I hope things improve for you,
Great to hear, thanks so much!!
Xolair turned things around for my son, to us it was a miracle. The staff at the clinic he attends told us Xolair is very successful.
I do hope it helps you.
Hi. I am on 4 weekly. Noticed a difference after 4 mths. Now nearly a year and feeling great. Pf drops when I have a cold etc. Then again it's just something to help prevent, not a cure. Hopefully things will improve.
Hi, it didn'twork for me. It actually made my symptoms worse. Docs stopped it after 4 months and i tried Mepo which has worked much better for me.
Hope the xoliar helps you or you find something else that does.
How did it make your symptoms worse? I am in a really bad flare and wondering about the same thing... thanks!
Hi
All my symptoms (breathlessness, tight chest, wheezing, coughing) just much worse. Right after the first injection I just felt everything was seriously out of control. I needed hydrocortisone (can't do pred) nearly all the time to try and calm my symptoms while I was on it.
Resp nurse didn't think it would work for me, but the hosp protocol is to try xoliar first before mepo. Lucky me (ha ha) that I qualified for trying both treatments. My asthma is not primarily allergic type. I have raised IgE, but not very high. Dust, coal fires, certain chemicals, pollen, dogs and horses can set me off, but not so severely that I couldn't manage at home with brycanyl inhaler or neb. However, I have eoisinphillic asthma which is what mepo is tailored to treat. I still have daily symptoms but am managing without steroids. On xoliar I was struggling really badly, even with the steroids. I felt better once I came off the xoliar. Not 'better' better, iyswim, but not out of control ...
Hope things improve for you
