THC Cannabis

Hi all,

Currently watching an interesting prog on BBC2 about medical cannabis and it’s sent me on an internet hunt for things relating to cannabis and asthma treatment. I’ve read that THC (as opposed to CBD) is best for calming asthmatic lung spasms, backed up by this study which actually found CBD to be ineffective:

More here (disclaimer though as it’s an article on a website which supports cannabis use) thegrowthop.com/cannabis-he...

Would love to see proper clinical trials being funded to establish long term safety and effectiveness!

Interesting article! I would try anything (legal) that would help with the inflammation. I have severe persistent asthma and chronic sinusitis, both made worse by inflammation. It seems that steroids are the only medication available for severe inflammation and it causes so many other issues.

Thanks for posting! I will continue to follow.

It is now legal as of last year for medical practitioners to prescribe cannabis for medicinal purposes but very few have done so due to the lack of clinical trial data establishing efficacy and safety.

It’s being prescribed in some epilepsy cases where the parents of children have gone abroad to obtain it medically and have shown it’s alleviated symptoms in their children.

I hope this field does advance over the coming years as cannabis shows potential promise for a range of different ailments...

Have you investigated the biologicals route for your asthma?

I am taking Nucala injections monthly. I am one of those adult onset asthmatics. Never smoked! No allergies at all! I am improved since going to Mayo Clinic but would still like other options.

Asthmatics want to make their own medical oil and consume it orally. It's a known mast cell stabilizer. It also slightly suppresses some immune function which is generally anti-inflammatory and carries no known negative connotations.

I am 30 years old, I suffer from allergic asthma, have mild flare-ups pretty much every day and I can honestly confirm that vaping cannabis leaves (I haven't tried the oils) opens my airways just like albuterol would, with the possible added benefit of the anti-inflammatory effects of CBD. The effect lasts for two hours, and the only downside is that THC will definitely make you high, even if it is present in small amounts.

As a side note, I believe it is very important to find the smallest dose possible to get the bronchodilating effects without having to put up with a strong high. Last night I had a tight chest while going to sleep, so I only inhaled the leaves twice and that was enough to open my breathing and have a nice rest.

Finally, let's not forget that this is nothing new: Cannabis was actually the first line treatment for asthma in Europe during the second half of the nineteenth century. The problem was that the leaves were smoked, so they helped in the short term but irritated the airways in the long term.

As far as my asthma is concerned, I am trying to find a Cannabis strain with just enough THC to open my airways and a good amount of CBD to help with the inflammation. I just wish I wasn't alone in this: it seems that governments and medical communities are more worried about profits than doing the research to find the right (and natural) treatment for this terrible ailment.
