Hi well ust been discharged from hosp after a nasty asthma attack early on morning. Husband called ambulance and i received excellent care off them and at the hospital. After oxygen and steroids and 4 hourly nebs etc i was kept in until the docs were happy i had improved with peak flow and wheezing. I was very scared the first night home but got through it. Still propped in chair overnight and sleeping short periods helps.feeling very weak but taking my time to recover. Given more steroids to take for another 10 days to make sure its controlled.been a bad year with high pollen counts and thundery weather which i am positive sets me off. Roll on autumn.

Gosh, that’s just awful that you have been very poorly. I think this has been a terrible summer for asthma sufferers. Had a few attacks myself after 25 years of mild asthma, it is very very frightening (I had forgotten what it is like) I hope you get well soon and your husband too. Asthma is such a terrible condition that it not only terrifies the suffers but their loved ones too.

Thankyou for your kindness yes very frightening, had asthma for 20 years and had some bad times but this was off the scale. Had been to docs in July and got 5 day course of 40 mcg steroids and anribiotics but within 10 days of being off them i knew things were not 100% I was hoping things would improve by themselves which i now know wont. So if i can give any sufferers advice dont be an idiot like me and go back to docs and pester them. I hate to do that but have learned my lesson i hope!

So agree with you TVpuzzle. During my last flare (which really I am still recovering from) I had 2 rounds of antibiotics and 2 rounds of steroids which didn’t help. My GP was not particularly helpful saying it was just anxiety causing the attacks as I wasn’t responding to the usual treatments. I knew that wasn’t the case but my protestations felt on deaf ears being told that “anxious people often think there problems aren’t caused by anxiety” I was so angry and very desperate after several attacks and a constant wheeze which I could get no relief from. I took matters into my own hands and saw a private specialist who diagnosed chronic sinusitis with post nasal drip that was continually irritating my lungs and throat. I walked proudly into my GP’s office brandishing my letter that the specialist had given me, threw it in his face, just looked and said “yes, it’s certainly anxiety” Got the right treatment now I am thankfully recovering but I had to fight all the way.

Some docs are good some not. My surgery will ony give steroids if you are very poorly but by that time it takes along time to feel relief. I once told the doc i had not slept for 2 weeks properly and was exhausted and he said well what do you want me to do give you sleeoing pills!! I said i am not stupid and know they can be dangerous with asthma and walked out. Saw another doc the next day and he gave me steroids.i always dread the summer as bad every year and wonder why they cant give you a low maintenance course before things take a grip. I also have a home nebuliser machine which is invaluable i feel. Take care lovely to talk to someboy who understands

So frustrating for you. Would have loved to have seen your GPs face when you showed him the letter! Shouldn’t have to be like that but sadly is all too common a scenario.

I wish you well that things settle now that hopefully you are on the right meds for you x

I can assure you it was a picture. The conversation was a perfect example of backpedaling.

Scary for you and your husband. Be gentle with yourself as can take a while to get over. So many of us have really struggled this year.

Take care x

I think my surgery has realised that I’m not the sort to be fobbed off and I don’t come in to see the dr unless I feel there is something very wrong. Prior to this incident they had to drag me to the surgery kicking and screaming for my annual review, that was how often I went.

Is a great position once they grasp that concept Junglechicken 👍🏻

Hello so glad you are better now. Just rest and take the time to recover.

I had a nasty asthma attack on Friday this week. I am allergic to high humidity. It was 96%.

Very breathless and tight chest. Peak flow dropped considerably.

Thamkfully the high humidity did not last long.

I can breathe easier. But terribly exhausted and have mild chest pains.

The humidity in my part of the world is high today and my sinuses are going crazy. Headache, wheezing, gooey throat etc
